Tires for 17.5 rims ? HELP
What do yall recommend I want to keep the stock rims on my 56 f250 They are 8 lug 17.5 x not sure of width. Are they going to be hard to find?

The stock 17.5s are 5.25" wide. Both highway and traction grip threads are available from Universal Tire in a bias ply tread. USA made by Specialty Tire of America (STA). Keep in mind that your rims were not designed to run with radials. Budd would void the warranty if radials were used. Here's the link to the Universal catalog showing them. Stu

Thank You do they carry 16 ply I think that is what is on the truck now or will that be to stiff.

Yikes, 16 ply on an F-250! On a '56 F-250, new from the factory with 17.5s, there was a 6 ply option and an 8 ply option. The Universal Tire ad says theirs are 8 ply. That ought to cover it. Stu

Hey Stu ..if he has 8 lug ..won't newer rims fit ..without all the frustration of overpriced tires ..and choices of everything out there ...and I was wondering if the spacer hub .(I don't know what they are called) he has would bolt on my hubs so I could fit 8 lug rims..sorry if this is a high jack ..but I ask to learn things ..

Since it's an F-250, not F-350, his rear hubs have the 8 x 6.5" bolt pattern already. He doesn't have spacers like you're thinking. Stu |
I agree, a lot less choices on the 17.5's. I did an exhaustive search for something tall, like over 32". I found a toyo at 32.5, but they were about 300.00 or so, then shipping. And Kenjh, I can't swear to it, but I don't think you have rear spacers either. They look like it, but upon close inspection or disassembly, if I remember correctly they are one big massive hub with brake drum assembly that won't separate. I might be thinking of the front here, it's been a while..... Believe me, swapping to 8 lug is a major project(never mind a MH). The F250 guys have it made with the modern wheel thing, but let's face it, they're also stuck with that puny little 8' bed........:D

Four rough tread Yokahamas on the drive axle and Double Coin on the steer axle. About $1.150.00 a couple three years ago. The Double Coins took a bunch of weight.
