Oil dipstick tube gasket
 

Well I have spending a lot time under my truck taking things apart. I pulled turbo, down pipe, starter,IC tubes, intake spyder, air cleaner, battery tray and I am in the middle of pulling trans. Also pulling up pipes, valve covers and exhaust back pressure tube. It started out as needing to rebuild turbo and front seal on trans leaks and now it is like the snowball effect. One thing leads into another... you know as long as you are there type of thing.
To get to the point my dipstick tube is leaking at the gasket at the oil pan. And I was going to use Guzzler's repair kit. But I think I have bigger problems. Because the outer nut is tight but the fitting in pan is still loose. REAL SLOPPY I can feel it moving in and out. I think the piece in the pan is bad. Is that piece metal, do they warp ? Has anyone ever had this problem ? I just feel that if I go to replace the gaskets it isn't going to solve my problem.
Has anyone ever had any luck fixing this without pulling the pan to do it right? Any input would be apppreciated ?

What ever you do, do not over tighten it! You can warp the flange and ruin it. If this happens the oil pan would need removing. That's not fun! Guzzles kit works well. I'd give it a shot! Here is a clip of the warped flange that held my buddies rebuild up a day or two. Only thing we could come up with is it must of been leaking and someone tried tightening it before.

Thanks Bulla for posting the video. Well I think that piece is warped in mine too by the way it feels. :-X19 So it looks like it is something I am going to have to live with for now !! I really don't want to pull the motor to replace a dipstick tube fitting. Another bright idea by Ford !!! Why couldn't they just weld the dipstick tube fitting in the pan ?? :-huh

There may be a chance it would seal with a new gasket. But since we had it out we weren't chancing it. Call guzzle and see what he thinks. It may get you by for a good while. All you have to lose is the cost of the kit.

Also the o ring on ours was so swollen and rubbery we couldn't even get it to line up with the flange. Kinda a like the dog house o rings. Good luck!

Well like you said using the repair kit from guzzle might help buy me some time. Make it lesser of a problem or even fix it. I have to call Bob for some other o rings away. Thanks for your input :-wink

Dipstick Adapter Repair Kit

It is neat and very expensive! What do you do with the old piece if your not pulling your pan? Just let it fall inside?

Yes, the instructions state to insure that the factory adapter has hit the bottom of the sump of the oil pan. You do remove the o-ring though.

Thanks for pointing out this kit. I really like it but it is a little too costly. Now if it was $100 I would be all over it. But I am sure that price will scare people away. That and I am not really liking the idea of dropping the old piece to the botton of pan. But it still would be a best solution out there for the problem.

Yes that is a steep price but for someone who dosent want to pull the eng then I guess its money well spent to get back on the road. But if you pull your eng then you can do other mods also while you have it out.
