Gas tank paint
Hello. I have just completed the install of a Jeep Commanche gas tank in my 48 F1. Before I put the box on I would like to paint it. It is a new tank and is a silver coloured plating, any ideas on what to prime it with?
The filler will be through the left rear fender with a 47/48 passenger fuel door. |
I would look at some of the POR-15 products maybe, just my 2c. John

I washed mine off with laquer thinner then used Rustoleum rusty metal primer and painted it with Rustoleum hammer tone dark grey. It looks good.

That was after a radiator shop tanked it and cleaned the rust out of it and coated the inside so it won't rust again.

painting your gas tank
The plating is zinc, same type used on shiny bolts and many other steel products. If you want a do it yourself paint job you can't go wrong with the previous post. You can go 1st class with a body shop applied etching primer and
polyurethane top coat (any color). The polyurethane is a 2 component (base+curing solution) really good quality paint. |
