Opinions on Lift Kits
 

I posted this in the superduty forum but didn't get much response, so I thought I would try you guys out, you have never let me down before.

I have an 04 F-250 FX4 with the 6.0 that is ready for new shocks and tires. I think I want to go with a little bit lager tire and a slight lift. I have never lifted a truck before so forgive me if these are common knowledge questions.

Are either of these two lifts quality? And if so wich is the prefered style?

If it turns out these are junk what would you use? And how high?

Unless you are going to do some extreme sport I would not bother lifting it. I have never lifted one and I live in the country and have driven through some pretty rough stuff and never needed any extra height. Everything people tell me is that it will kill mileage also.

Add-a-leafs will make the ride rougher (also less rear end sag when there is weight on it), blocks too high can cause leaf spring damage. 2" is about all I would feel comfortable lifting in either of those choices.

I have a 4" Pro Comp lift and 35" tires. I like the looks and it still rides nice. About $900 with shocks.

I would like to preserve the ride as much as possible, but really how much worse can it be than the stock ride of these trucks?

The lift and bigger tires are not really for off roading, other than pulling my hunting trailer (the primary reason I bought this truck), more of an aesthetic upgrade. I'm looking at something around a 35" BFG All Terrains.

I have the same basic truck as you, F350 though, and also have the Pro Comp 4" lift with 35" BFG AT TA's. Without the lift the front tires will rub the inner fender well and the front air dam/spoiler when turned lock to lock. Once the lift was installed there were no issues. You may be able to get away with just a 2" front leveling kit as well. The Pro Comp lift rides ok, a little rougher, but after 3 years with it things are starting to squeak and rattle in the suspension dept (made in China). I'm sure it's just the rubber bushings on the leaf spring pack eyelets but to replace them you've got to remove them and I'm just not into doing that just yet.

While I like the looks of my truck, if I had to do it again I'd go with a smaller tire and the 2" leveling kit.

I have a 05 with a fab tech 6" lift an 37x13.5x18 tires. It rides a lil rough but my shocks r worn out. I like the way it looks an I get bout 13 or so empty bout 10 or so pullin my 30 camper that weights about 7500 pounds. Bigger tires will hurt fuel mileage some. But can go back later an change gears an fuel mileage will go back up.

If you arent looking for a big lift and just want to clear 35's I would suggest a 2 1/2" front leveling kit. I bought mine from Zone Offroad Products. I partially went with them because I am from Michigan and I prefer to buy from a somewhat local place with most everything made in the USA (Zone is located in Coldwater, MI). Aside from that I found good feedback/reviews of this leveling kit as well as a fair price. I added 4 nitro shocks, steering stabilizer, adjustable track bar and new sway bar links to my order with their product because my shocks and stabilizer were all shot.

Being that you have an F250 I am not 100% sure if your rear end sits up as high as the F350. My understanding is that the F350 utilizes a taller block (by about 2") on the rear axle than the F250. Someone correct me if I am wrong there. I believe you can snag that block out of another truck and install it with some longer u-bolts. Otherwise installing a front leveling kit would probably make you feel like your riding into the sky.

Great intel.... Will this really clear 35's on a F250 you think ?

I can't say for sure but if you leveled the front end and raised the rear end the same as an F350 I would think you could. I'm sure there is an F250 owner that has attempted out there somewhere. I only run 285/75's on my truck at this time but I know I can clear 35s without any issues aside from possible plastic triming on the front bumper. If you read through that whole post I linked to you will see at least a couple guys that run 35s with just the leveling kit on their 350s. I would suggest doing some research and seeing what others lift/tire/wheel combos have been able to clear.

Thanks for the input ! I'm running 285/75's on stock height right now and they rub a little at full lock so atleast I know it would clear those with a leveling kit. Thanks again !

I have a 2006 with a 4" bds with 325/65/18 bfg a/trides awesome not a hole lot of difference different suspension though
My dad has a 2004 with 4"procomp with 295/75/16 bfg a/t it's deffinetely noticeable that it's rougher on dirt roads hieway though not a hole lot

Pro comp and rough country are cheaper priced lifts and are that way for a reason. I had an 02 f250 and a 2.5 inch leveling kit and cleared 35s just fine. I did have a full replacement front bumper that didn't hang as low as the stocker and I had to move my fender well in the rear back about an inch. No rub ever. If your gonna lift it 4+inches go with a more exponents lift (icon,bds,zone) their quality is well worth the price. Just a lil info I can provide!
