Best lift kit?
I am currently running a 6" lift with 295/75/16 tires which are small for the 6" lift, but still put me over the legal lift limit in Massachusetts. It's brought me lots of problems with the law and instead of removing leafs from the spring packs I figure I should probably just get a new lift kit that makes my truck legal. I can legally run 5" of total lift (added height from tires is included in that 5" limit) so I figure a 3" kit will get me there.
The lift I have right now is EXTREMELY rough ride. I can feel every crack in the road when I'm on the highway, and there are lots of them in MA. Going over bumps is like riding in the back seat of a school bus, I nearly get launched out of my seat. I know I can lower my tire pressure, but I'd rather just get a suspension kit that doesn't require me to ruin my tires. Does anybody have a recommendation for a smooth riding 3" lift kit? Cost is a factor as usual. I'm considering stock springs but I do like having a lift. |

If you want to keep factory ride you could use stock springs and a shackle lift.

My main problem is that I bought the truck lifted and don't know what is stock and what has been replaced. It's a rust belt truck so it's tough to tell which parts are new even after 1 year. I can snap some photo's when I get home tonight and see if anybody know's what I've got. I'm sure the brotherhood can identify what's been replaced, I'm just unsure about the brand.

Pro Comp has a 2.5 and 4 inch kit so it depends on whether you want to go 4 on the lift and one on the tires or 2.5 on each. I believe the stock tire for a 03 f350 is a LT 285/75R16. If that is correct that puts the tire at 32.8 inches so round to 33. So you will either run a 4 inch lift and keep the tires you have or try a 2.5 inch lift and see if you can get some 35s under there. 35’s with only 2.5 lift may not work. Tough choice, some like bigger tires while others like more truck height.

Stock tire on a 2003 Super Duty is 265/75-16 (which the the optional larger tire). The smaller one is a 245/85-16 I think. My truck came with the optional 265s. The 285s fill out the wheel wells nicely on a stock truck like mine and are about as you can go without rubbing before needing a lift.
