Tonneau Cover Recommendations...
I need a new tonneau cover on my '02 F250 and am interested in hearing what kind others have and what you like/dislike about it.
I have an Extang Full Tilt on my '02 F350, and I love it. I'm thinking of going with this same one on the F250, but a friend in the biz recommends the Trifecta Tri-Fold instead, and I think I love this one more than the Full Tilt: http://www.extang.com/docs/trifecta.html Installation looks really simple, and I love the way it looks and operates: http://www.extang.com/videos/trifectaVideo.html When I bought the F250, it came with this crappy roll-up tonneau cover (I can't even find a name on it anywhere). It wasn't installed properly by the previous owner, and the bed of my truck is ALWAYS wet because it leaks in the front corners. Then, when Hurricane Irene came through at the end of August, the ton of rain we got here in Jersey bent the 2 support beams underneath the cover so it was literally caved in and the water just kept pooling there, pushing it down even further. Total piece of junk (not to mention NOT convenient to use at all). So here's what it looked like when I purchased the truck (notice how nice and level/flat it is): http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...1_A562x421.jpg Okay, so after a really BAD attempt to fix it (and NOT my doing), the support bars underneath are now bent the opposite way and it sticks way up in the air! It is the most idiotic-looking thing I've ever seen, and my ex-husband flipped a lid when he happened to see it yesterday (we bought the truck together, and he's still paying for half of it, so I can understand why it ticked him off). I tried getting these photos in the dark and the rain, so it's kinda hard to see, but trust me, you'll get the gist of it. Plus, as I said, it leaks so what's the point. I don't believe in buying cheap junk for my vehicles, and this is a prime example why!! :-arrgh So...what brand/model tonneau cover do you have? Probably the biggest thing I ever throw in the bed is my bike and my daughter's bike. The Trifecta looks to be a good option. What do y'all think? |
have you checked out the ones at ziebart or line-x? they are hard and you can stand on them yet they come off really easy and have struts to lift them and hold them up......just a thought.....

Hi Bill, thanks for the response! I have not checked either of those out, though I've heard of Line-X. Not sure I prefer the hard covers though ~ how do you make something fit like a bike when the handlebars stick up too high (without removing the cover)? I hope that doesn't sound like a dumb question!!

i guess if you dont drive very far you could just open it and drove with the bed cover "popped" for a lack of a better term. cant you turn the handle bars to make the bike fit in the bed? i use a bike rack when i transport so i guess i dont worry about the bike dimensions.....oooops....

dose it have to be a cover? have you looked in to the snug top like mine?
mine is a leer brand and it dose good. |

that is fine. it is that most covers i have seen leak water and the hard ones dump the water in the bed when you open it.
i like the room it gives and it came with the truck when i got it. |
I have had a few different ones on the trucks I have owned over the years and this is the best one I have found so far. Have a look at diamondback truck covers as they have various styles to choose from. I went with the HD model that will hold 1600 pounds and you park ATV’s on them or whatever else you may need to haul around. Both ends open and you can unhook the piston and fold it all the way down onto the other side or take it off. They also have channels in them that will funnel the water off instead of dumping it in the bed of the truck.

I have a Retrax (hard roll up cover) and like it very much. I bought mine used - I couldn't bring myself to pay $1K for such a cover. You get some security, it looks nice, and you just roll it back as much as you need to, when you put a bicycle or tall object in the bed. The 3-section flip covers look good in that respect, too, and are probably cheaper.
