parts deleated off truck... winters coming.

I live in upstate NY, maybe hits 0f here but uasually 30's...
there is no fuel heater on my 6.8 or water seperator. what kinda trouble am i lookin at?

swooshcmk 11-16-2011 06:12 PM

I don't have the fuel heater hooked up, and I deleted the original 6.9L water separator for a fuel filter with a drain screw on the bottom. Never any issues in SE WI and we get below 0 in January. And come to think of it I've never drained my fuel filter yet.. maybe I should do that once :)

Rollin.IH.Coal 11-16-2011 06:41 PM

Okk, how do you do that? draining the filter? change it? also where can i get diesel kleen cheap?

swooshcmk 11-16-2011 06:46 PM

I got a filter from Napa that had a small thumbscrew on the bottom to drain water out. I switched to a 7.3L filter head so I can't give you the part number of mine as the 6.9 and 7.3 filter heads are different. I usually buy my diesel kleen at Wal Mart, but some other guys might have cheaper sources.

im kinda looking for a 7.3 head so id have a heater.

swooshcmk 11-16-2011 07:10 PM

Your 6.9L heater went bad I take it?

Rollin.IH.Coal 11-16-2011 07:13 PM

PO removed it, i just got the truck. it was like an abused puppy that i took in.. pulled 1 champion gp and 2 diffrent kinds of autolites..

You can get a fuel filter heater that wraps around the actual filter. F250 has a link for it. I would wire it in with a relay and use the old heater wire to toggle the relay. There are a lot of fuel heaters out there. Try googling it and see what comes up. You probably don't want one that uses coolant as a heat source as it relies on the engine to be warm before it is effective.

Something like this:

i got my 85fl oz bottle of winter blend diesel kleen from walmart for ~$25.

You'll need to add a relay. This one would probably work just fine...Summit Racing SUM-890023 - Summit Racing® Fuel Pump Relays - Overview - SummitRacing.com

Use the hot wire from the old heater as the trigger wire.
