Tire Pressure Sensor Error Message

Weekend before last we were on a 1000 mile round trip towing a 4-horse gooseneck trailer with our new 2011 F350. The LCD screen displayed a "Tire Pressure Sensor Error" message. Can bumpy roads cause this error message? We were on I-59 northeast of Birmingham Alabama, which has some really bad concrete joints. The message went away once we were out of the bumpy concrete, but came back about an hour later after hitting some more bumpy road. We haven't seen the message since then (another 1000 miles on the truck since then).

Check the pressure in all of your tires. The variance in temperatures could cause the message to appear if your tires are close to the threshold set by the in wheel moniters. My pressure sensors are set at around 60 pounds I believe. I run my back tires at 60 pounds and the front at 65 with no problems when not towing. When the weather got cold here I had to top the pressure off in the rears back up to 60 pounds.

also check the air pressure in your spare. a low spare can also set off the the warning light.

I had the understanding the spare did not have a TPMS sensor.

I think you are right. I had a flat and all the time I had my spare on the fault message was on my display screen. As soon as I put the regular tire and rim back on the message went away. The spare was properly inflated too.

The spare does not have a sensor.

Tires were checked before the trip, 65 psi front and 80 psi rear. They were also hot after driving several hours at highway speed, so I don' think one could have been low. Plus the sensor error message hasn't come back since after the truck was turned off. It's not an issue I guess since it hasn't come back. Just a curiosity at this point!

The reason i do know is i cut down a tire and put my spare on.light came on instantly. but when i got new tire and they mounted. i asked if they would bust the spare tire down and confirm it doesn't have a sensor.
