Fan Clutch Removal
When facing the truck, do you turn the fan clutch nut left or right to remove? Thanks in advance!

Did you know that when determining Right and Left on ANY vehicle, that it is as if you are sitting in the drivers seat? I do believe that that nut is a standard right hand thread tho.
So tighty is righty. |
Bud, thanks for the reply.
Yes, I do know that right and left is determined from sitting in the vehicle; the fan clutch is a little hard to reach from in there tho! (lol) As I figured most people will be facing the truck when removing it, I asked the question from that point of view. Thanks again! Steve |
Welcome Steve.... I like to throw in little bidbits when I can....others can learn, right? Have a good day!

Probaly TMI }>but I had to remove mine last year. The nut is left to loosen facing the front bumper. Mine was a real PITA.:-arrgh Some folks get it with no problem. I tried everything from buying a removal tool from NAPA and using the strongest air hammer Snap On had... to beating it with a 8 lb hammer. Would not budge. I am not trying to discourage you just a heads up. I decided not to stress over it and went on to other projects. No. it did not remove itself. For the next 2 days anytime I walked close to the X I hit the bar with a BFH once or twice and moved on. Second day second try it broke loose and you could turn it off with your hand. ......Good luck...

A pipe wrench worked great for me the last time I had to remove it.

I have given up on the left/right thing. I see people mix it up sometimes. I use driver/passenger side. No confusion. :)

What they said...righty tighty, lefty loosey and I used a pipe wrench with a breaker bar as well. The real trick was holding the pulley from turning. I finally was able to do so with a long 1/2" drive extension with 3/8" adapter on the end and in the hole but only after wasting two large, perfectly good screwdrivers.
