57-60 fuel guage
Looking for a new fuel gauge for my '59. I have the stock sender with the stock gauge but that gauge just went out. Eventually I'd like to find all new gauges but right now I'm looking for the cheapest gauge that can take it's place.
Does anyone have a napa part number for a gauge compatible with the stock sender? |
Believe it or not, you can usually find an NOS gauge for around $25 or less. They appear quite frequently on E-bay, however you're at the mercy of another's highest bid. Dennis Carpenter (highest prices), Miller Obsolete, and Green Sales (lowest prices) should have at least one in their NOS stock. I don't have my books with me for a part number at this time, however if you contact Mr4spdFord or NumbersDummy, they can provide you with an OEM part number to use when inquiring.

How do I know if that's a fuel or temp gauge? Do they both have the same ohm range(making them interchangable)? I don't have it infront of me but I'm pretty sure mine says "fuel" at the bottom of the guage face when it's removed from the cluster.

i was checking that guage out that is a Fuel guage the temp guage only has 3 lines , i looked at mine and its the same as my Fuel guage

Disregard the E-bay link, as I just noticed I copied an incorrect page (amp gauge). The gauge itself has no wording, only an orange needle and white hash marks. Inside the cluster is a metal bezel that surrounds the gauge and displays the appropriate lettering for what the gauge displays at the bottom. The gauges are different, and not interchangeable. The ohm readings differ as do the mounting bracket orientation on the gauge itself.
The cluster consists of the housing, three cardboard tubes to contain the lighting for the high beam indicator, OIL, and GEN lights, the speedometer, temp gauge, fuel gauge, high beam, OIL and GEN lenses, surround bezel, and the glass. To swap the gauge, unplug all gauge and bulb connections from the rear, un-snap the speedometer cable, and unscrew the outer screws of the front instrument cluster panel. Remove the entire panel with cluster attached. Once removed, unscrew the temperature gauge from the rear, remove, and install the new cluster and re-assemble. Personally, I wouldn't bother with trying to install an aftermarket parts store gauge. Even if an NOS or used gauge costs more, the time saved without having to wire in an entirely new/different gauge is money well spent. |
Thanks, yea eventually I'd like to find all brand new guages to put in but just haven't found ones I like yet.
For now I'll just keep an eye out for a NOS stock fuel gauge. |
Here's an NOS fuel gauge, in the correct color. The post lists it as an ammeter,I think it is for fuel.Ask the seller for the Ford part number to cross check it:
eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices Edit note: Sorry, this is NOT a fuel gauge, but an (optional?) ammeter as the seller stated. |

I guess I can't blame the Steve for not buying one. I called the first place and the price was $125.00! I thought it was a tad high. The next two places I called, I was not able to get a price since the persons I needed to talk to were either in a different building or out for the rest of the day. I am not too hopeful witht the first price though. I have a '59 guage from my parts truck but it is not the color I want for the '60. Although, I could get use to it for $125 plus shipping! I didn't call on the one in Texas with the older part number as I would think that would have the dark face as well.
I guess I'll join the cheapskate club! What are the dues Steve? |
yea I just got an NOS '60 fuel gauge(gray back) on ebay for $26.

Awesome, Colin.... Very Thrifty! As big as this country is, ok the world is, it's nice to know there's an F350 fridge guy on another island in Puget Sound. My fiance was born and raised on Vashon Island and her sister still lives there. I know we will meet one day and maybe do a fridge rendezvous on Vashon!
