Rear Diff Fluid Topping Off
Team, I have a question? I have what I thought was a minor rear diff seal leak! So, I start to top off, and used 1 qt of fluid. Is this bad news? I am scheduled to have this seal repaired next Thursday. The rear diff did not appear to be that wet. Any opinions are welcomed.

It could have been there for a long time and you didnt notice it. Just top it off. Youll be fine but I would check it every few days so you know just how bad it is and if its low again just fill it up until you can get it changed
|
you did fill it at the plug on the driver side of the diff ?
a quart is about 1/3 of the total capacity of diff, I would be real surprised that the diff wasn't wet |
Check the vent tube and make sure it is not blocked or pinched.

I've been there and done that with a pinion seal leak. Just keep it full from now on and don't worry about it. It got a little low and there's nothing you can do about it now. I would bet good money you won't have any further problems. I didn't.

This is to keep it from pressurizing correct?

So...Team, you think that some over heating damage may have occured In the rear diff?

I went on a 300 mile trip pulling a heavy trailer at hyway speeds, went I got home and was updocking the trailer, saw spots of oil on my bumper, then noticed how wet the bottom of the diff was.
