What engines do I have? 351C, 351W or 351M/400
Trying to figure out what engines are in 2 parts trucks recently acquired. One has a 'rib' if you will in the casting and the other doesn't. The one with the 'rib' seems to be identical to the 400 block in my 80 F360. The other engine doesn't have the 'rib' I have pics of both these in my albums. What I have gathered so far is neither are 351W. I am wondering if maybe the engine in the green truck (see album) is a FE 360. Vin for this truck shows it had a 360 originally. person I bought it from said the engine was replaced with a 360 however she wasnt sure and the air cleaner has a 351 emblem on it so Im not sure what I have. Both have 8 bolt valve covers and vertical fuel pump bolt patterns so the 351W is out. I was told by the seller the engine with the 'rib' was a 351W but it deffinately appears not to be that.
Can anyone help me identify these two engines? Both run good, the green truck has a stock intake w/2bbl carb, the one with the 'rib' has an Edelbrock intake and Edelbrock 4bbl carb. I don't need either engine but might want to keep the Cleveland if one is a Cleveland. I just want to be able to sell either as what they are not what former owners said they were. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |
Looks like a cleveland to me, But I am not familiar with the FE360. The width and the rib would suggest a 351m-400 as against a 351C. I have some photos in my albums. Have a look for comparison.

8 valve cover bolts = 335 series, so no 351w.
351c is going to be over 1" narrower at the intake than the 351m/400. 351m/400 pic and info: 351M/400 Performance Build Up 351C, note difference in height from water pump http://www.bierbros.net/images/graphics/351cshortrs.jpg |
not sure what you mean 'difference in height from water pump. I see the pic but height from where to where?
