Heater Vacuum Selector Switch

Hello all,
I have recently been to Crazy Ray's here in Baltimore, MD and have acquired a vacuum selector switch for my 1980 Ford F100 because mine has a major vacuum leak. The switch I picked up from Crazy Ray's is out of a 1982 Ford E-150 van with a 302, however I can't find anything on the vacuum selector switch for the van to determine if they will interchange. If anybody could help it would be greatly appreciated.

Where is this vacuum selector switch located? Is this a part of the HVAC controls?

Locorotc 11-06-2011 10:31 AM

Yes sir that is correct. The control is in the dash below the radio. It has the heat and A/C slide bar on it, if you understand that.

ctubutis 11-06-2011 10:40 AM

I'm assuming Factory A/C and not dealer-added, correct?

Locorotc 11-06-2011 10:41 AM

Correct again.

You are saying you got the entire 19980 assembly, correct?

Or, are you talking about something else?

Yes, I have the whole assembly, however, the assembly doesn't have the dual tank switch socket. That's why I was wondering if the vacuum switch would work on my '80.

My intention was to look in the parts catalog to see what it had to say about the same (or different) part numbers being used in trucks & vans.

Didn't have to look hard, the first clue is on that pic above where the text underneath it specifies it's for 80-86 trucks & Broncos (the U) no mention of vans (would be E).

Looking at the van pictures, apparently that control is made up of several sub-assemblies whereas it's a complete, standalone unit in the trucks.

So, will it work for you? I dunno, try it and see. ;) Might be able to compare colors of vacuum lines, or maybe somebody else might chime in with more specific info....

Cool thanks, if somebody else knows anything else that would be great. I will try to assemble it and see if they match up.

So I replaced the selector today and it turns out, it is the same exact one. I put it in and it works great.

It cannot be the same if the seller claimed it came from a 1982 Econoline.

E0UZ-19B888-A .. A/C Vacuum Control Selector Valve Assy (Motorcraft YH-367) / 1980/82 Econoline with factory A/C.

E0TZ-19B888-B .. A/C Vacuum Control Selector Valve Assy (Motorcraft YH-361) / 1980/82 F100/350 & Bronco w/factory A/C.

It could just use different part numbers because they are designed for different vehicles. The control assembly between the vans and trucks themselves are identical, only difference being that on the vans with dual fuel tanks, there was a completely seperate selector switch, whereas on the trucks it was on the right of the assembly and the Bronco's used them for the rear window switch. Hold up an assembly from a single tank truck with one from an Econoline, there will be no differences, or at least very minimal.

Edit: If you look at the assembly numbers in the above pictures, the switch assembly is #19980 in both.

:-missingt You cannot go by that! Besides, the switch is #19986, not 19980.

19980 is the Ford basic part number for the A/C heater control panel for EVERYTHING! Passenger Cars, Trucks, Bronco's, Econolines, Aerostars, Bronco II/Ranger and etc., etc., etc.

The heater only control panel is Ford basic part number 18549

From 1965 thru today, everyone of those A/C vacuum control selector valves is basic part number 19B888

What most peeps don't realize is...that Ford basic part numbers have been the same for decades. Adding the prefix and suffix gives the complete part number.

And, only basic part numbers are shown in illustrations, the text section is required to get the complete part number.

The 1980/89 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalog is available on a CD from hipoparts.com. This is the same catalog that Chris (ctubutis) scanned and posted the pics from.

I'm using this catalog on FoMoCo microfiche slides. See my signature, I didn't start doing this jazz yesterday: Ford partsman 1962/97.

Since 11/04/2006, I've typed over 37,000 posts. At least 80% have a part number (or more) typed in them. I also search for obsolete parts for FTE members, post the sources that have them and the contact info.

I stand corrected, you really do learn something new everyday! Anyhow, I'm not sure what's supposed to be the difference between the two (if there is any), but I've had to do this swap myself in the past and they are indeed "the same"... as in they will interchange, mount the same, function as they should, etc. I'm not sure myself why they weren't just listed as the same part, but of course this particular area isn't my savvy either...

NumberDummy 12-01-2011 06:46 PM

If the part numbers were the same, the parts would be the same.

But...they aren't the same:

E0UZ-19B888-A = 1980/82 Econoline w/factory A/C.

E0TZ-19B888-B = 1980/82 F100/350 & Bronco w/factory A/C.

The basic part number (19B888) is the same, but the prefix and suffix are not.
