convert this F350 auto to manual question

Well I check cost of maintain and reliable.

I decided go with manual cause I love how I want shift while this automatic in F350 shift at wrong time which I don't like.

I check ZF5 rebuilt one cheapest I see for $1200 plus 1 year warranty. ZF6 cost $2,400 that crazy.

Do you think ZF5 will able work with this stock F350 it had 218K miles.

Have anyone successful convert to manual?

There have been several who have converted over to the ZF-6. I don't know anyone who has switched over to a ZF-5 except down in the OBS section. There should be no reason you couldn't do it. I believe the ZF-5 is a smaller tranny, so you may be able to get away without modding the floor pan hump as is required for the ZF-6. You'll also have to get a custom front driveshaft since the 5 is shorter, but that part is easy.

You might also ask this question down in the 94 - 97 diesel section since they have more experience with the ZF-5

The zf-5 was run with the powerstroke 7.3 in 94-97 pickups.

But for less than the cost of the convert you could get a BTS or Woods automatic 4R100.

Yup. The zf6 is massive. It is taller then the auto by about 6" and needs the center hump in the floor raised up. You may be able to do it with a 3" body lift but it may still rub.
The zf5 may require some funny business with the slave cylinder cause it's completely different then the superduty one.

If you don't like how the auto shifts... Any chip or tuner will solve that issue.
You seriously can't compare a stock auto to a manual trans. Now if you had a tuned auto and still said you didn't like the shifts then I'd go along with it.

The zf5 is also rated for less input torque. IIRC, 470 is the max on the stronger model (420 on the gasser one) vs. the 520 for the zf6. Look around for someone who's parting out a truck and get the parts you need. Thats how I ended up with a trans, flywheel, clutch, and pedal for $900 shipped.

After research and look this thread.

I am thinking I going have reman transmission.

Can anyone get price quote at Ford dealer on reman 4R100 We had 2 dealers near but they love charge at RETAIL price and they don't give discount too. Example you can get motorcraft oem starter under $170 while they try charge $250-280.

Better Off giving BTS or John Wood a call. Since your in MI BTS would be closer but either way they both build bullit proof trannies. No since in installing a factory one just so you can replace it again in a few years... Buy one from BTS or JW and never have to worry about your tranny again.

$4,000 for transmission. Believe or not I only paid $1500 for this F350. PO never maintain transmission. Was surprised it original tran with almost 220K miles.

I just had a quote of 1600 to do a stock rebuild. No removal or installation.
Advance told me 1800 and I can't remember but ford I think told me 2300.
If you are going to stay stock then a stock trans is fine. If you are going to tow then some simple cheap mods can be done. If you're going to work hard or play hard you need a trans that can hold up to it. You're not into this truck a whole lot so even if you get the lower end trans from bts or wood you are well below the value of the truck still.
