Suspension noise
I have a creeking/squeaking noise in my suspension that is getting worse and worse. maybe it isnt getting worse, but it sounds worse to me everyday because I am tired of hearing it. I have swapped out my shocks and that did not do the trick. i have tried lubricating the leaf springs and all other suspension parts in there, still nothing. i was thinking about changing out the entire leaf spring package, but do not want to waste any more money until I have a better idea of exactly what the problem is. any help would be much appreciated...

Does it sound more in the front or rear?
you check the plastic pads between each leaf?
sounds more like the front than the rear...
the plastic pads are still there, a little worn but there none the less it makes the noise when i am turning the steering wheel right or left and going over bumps. it also happens when the weight shifts from stopping and taking off |
It sounds like a broken sway bar link or bad ball joint. When you replaced the shocks, did you replace the lower bolts too?
i did not...maybe i will put the truck back up on a lift and look at the sway bar links and ball joints...i know i want and need to get rid of this damn noise cause it is driving me nuts
Bad ball joints will give you that squeaking noise when you turn right to left. A broken sway bar link will give you that bumping noise when you stop and go. Also the front lower shock bolts get worn down and have some play up and down. That will also give you a bumping noise. I just went through this on my screw I replaced everything in the front end And I was still getting a bumping noise, so I replaced the shocks and new bolts from advance auto...noise is gone...drives like a new truck.
do you have to buy the bolts seperately? i do not remember if mine came with new bolts
No the bolts are not included. I got these at advance. Part# 9060561
M12-1.75x90mm. These are perfect fit! |
oh okay, thank you very much for the help...i will try and get some tomorrow and see if this works for me
Take a needle grease fitting and stab the lower ball joints pump them full of grease
got the truck on the lift today and the sway bar bushings looked to be in decent shape and the ball joint bushings looked to be in the same shape. i did look at the bolt at the bottom of those shocks and there dont seem to be noticeable play, but still plan on trying to change them out...
kbsupercrew...did you have a similar issue and pump grease into the ball joints and solve the issue? i actually considered pumping new grease into all the grease points on the truck today while it was on the lift, but left my damn grease gun at home and the hobby shop on base couldnt find the fittings |
Are the ball joints factory? Normally when they squeak there on the way out. You can hit them with the needle and it will quite them down. I replaced mine all with moog. A much better part then OEM. Plus you can grease them.
I had a similar issue that turned out to be the front U-Joint on my truck. I changed the front and rear and all was quite again
with all these different suggestions out there, my fear is coming belief faster and faster...i just need to keep replacing parts until i find it on my truck. good thing about it all is, it generally isnt to bad for the bushings and some of the other parts as well. thanks guys for all the help and please keep the comments and suggestions coming
