New owner update

I upgraded from a 2003 F150 SC FX4 to a new 2011 F250 CC FX4 about 2.5 weeks ago. I really like this truck. This is my first turbo diesel. I did drive a 1980 VW Rabbit oil burner several years ago. So far I have added the following:
- OEM fog lights (I was amazed the truck didn't come with them as it is fairly loaded)
- LineX bedliner (last truck had it and every truck I own will have it)
- Access rollup tonneau cover
- WeatherTech vent visors (Again, last truck had them and I loved them)

I considered some kind of load bar or cargo gate for the bed but decided to cut a 2x10x8 to the correct length to fit the slot behind the wheel well. I used cardboard to create a template of the curve of the bedwall and ended up with a perfect fit. This will serve my need of keeping small items close to the back of the bed (groceries, etc).

The performance of the truck has been great so far. I have driven just over 1600 miles so far. I have two longish trips, one roundtrip from Knoxville, TN to Huntington, WV (no level road between here and there) and one roundtrip from Knoxville to Charlotte. I averaged 19.2 to WV and 19.5 to Charlotte. This is over 2mpg better than my F150 with the 5.4 gas engine. My around town mileage is about the same as the old truck at 15mpg. I can't wait to hook up my 27 foot travel trailer and take a trip! I expect to improve on the 10mpg I got with the old truck when towing.

The talk about fuel and HPFPs has created some level of concern but I have decided that there is no reason to worry over it. I will fuel at higher volume stations when possible (there is a Pilot less than a mile from me) and I will use Power Service Diesel Kleen in at least every other tank. I do not expect my usage of the additive to help with the warranty (which I did buy - 100k miles) but it does seem to improve mileage and gives me some peace of mind related to lubricity. My dad has driven one of these trucks for almost a year and loves it. I now understand why.

Welcome -

Your right no need to be scared or worried. Drive and enjoy.

I've had mine 2 months, and love it. I've pulled my 9000lb 5ver over 1000 miles in that time as well. Pulls like a dream, plenty of power to spare, and averages about 13mpg pulling that weight without strong headwinds. I do triple tow(12500-13000 pounds, and usually average about 11 mpg. Talked to a fellow 11 SD driver with a dually the other day pulling 16000 pounds, averaging 10mpg (Big and high 5ver).

Next summer I'm gonna pull all the way to Yellowstone National Park. I can't wait to drive that distance and at the end of the day not have tight shoulders.

I smile at every rig I meet at the road, I'm happy as heck pulling the rig, and even happier when it's time to pass, drops into 4th and pulls away from people like their not moving, that's with the camper on the back, which actually doesn't feel like it's there at all, only way to tell is the fuel usage....:)

Glad to see a new owner! These things are truly fantastic to drive and tow with. Have fun.

Congrats on the new truck!

Take some time to read through the Tech 'sticky' thread at the top of the forum as there's lots of good info in there.

Congrats on the new truck. Mine is 7 months old and I am just shy of 12,000 miles on it. No issues to date. So far, it is the best overall experience for a diesel 4 wheeler I have ever had!

Congratulations on the new truck. I've owned mine for a month now and after putting on 600 miles I towed my 12K# fifth-wheel on a two week 1000+ mile trip and averaged 13.1 mpg.

I moved from a '09 F150 with a 5.4 to a '11 F250 with the 6.7 and I've improved fuel mileage 2.2 miles/gal on my 1st 35,000 miles. I love the fact that when I hook up a trailer the mileage doesn't drop as hard as the 5.4 and I have tons of power and more control, braking, etc.

I don't think you'll regret the choice, (I know I'm not) enjoy the truck!

Sound, sane and rational decision making at it's finest! Yes, it's nice to be aware of a slight possibilty of an issue, but then you just move forward from there.

But you know it doesn't really exist until we get pictures or at least know which color you chose!!
