2006 150 FX4 5.4 oil capacity?

Hey guys today or tomorrow im gonna change the oil for the first time in this truck. It has 34000 miles and it has been changed every 3000 miles but we just bought the truck so this will be the first time i have changed it. Any thing to look out for? tips, tricks? What filter should I use? And how much oil does the motor hold?

7 quarts is the capacity
Use the Motorcraft FL820 filter as it has a better anti-drain back valve.
5w-20 is the recommended oil and any good semi-syn blend should be sufficient, Motorcraft works quite well.

EDIT: FYI, most Walmarts carry the Motorcraft filters and oil.

My buddy says use castrol 5w20 sythetic or royal purple if I can afford it lol

MCDavis 10-21-2011 10:38 AM

Royal Purple isn't worth the extra coin. I run a full syn 5w-20 in my '06 and I'm happy with it. Cannot recall if it is MC or another brand honestly...as the shop does my changes...but I do request the MC FL820 from them...and they use it.

Make sure you have a socket-type filter wrench, it's a PITA to get that filter off!

I use mobil 1 syn and filter and have been very happy with the results. x2 on the filter being a HUGE PITA to get off they put it in a terrible spot but whatever works I guess.
