Dash Wiring
 

Hi, I'm new to the Forum and this is my first post. I like what I see so far, you guys seem great.
I've got a 62 Unibody with a 223, and 4 on the floor, its my first Classic and I got her about a year ago. I love the old gal. My problem is Wiring It looks like the Former owner had a party under the dash and left me a mess. I want to rewire it. dash lights dont work, the heater is DOA, the cigarette lighter has no juice... Its just ugly.
My question is, is there anybody who sells complete wiring harnesses with the right connectors and such already in place, or am I gonna have to go it alone.

That is tough one. If you just run wires by yourself, you can cusomize it alittle bit more and you learn more about what is under dash. On the other hand, simplicity is always attractive. I stuck my head under my dash and I saw more splices than I cared to mess with. I am just going to replace wire by wire since I only have about a dozon to mess with.

Thanks for the reply. I was kinda thinkin the same thing, wire by wire might teach me a thing or two. Does anybody have any suggestions for some kind of idiot book to make the job a little easier. I've got a little experience with wiring from working on alarm systems in a commercial building, so I know how to do the basics (strip, splice, solder, seal, etc.) but as far as building a harness from scratch, I'm a little over my head. :-huh.
Also, where do I find some of the more specialized connectors, specifically the one for a 3 prong ignition switch. At some point somebody cut the one I have on there right now a little close, and his sloppy ass splice job is about to let go. I found one online for a 65 fairlane that looks similar, is it the same part? How many different ignition switches was Ford using back in the early 60's?

I recommend checking your headlight switch; which is basically your fuse panel; and if you see blow fuses replace them; get a test light and check voltage amps etc. also if a salavage yard is close by with a 61-64 model; remove the dash harness and use it if yours a rat's nest.
