That Samsung Rugby has been the only phone I can use at work. None of the others can take the abuse. I used to go through at least 2 phones per yr. TI can keep these Rugbys working for 2-3 yrs.

Gruesome, you will probably have to go at least .030" over from where your block is now whenever you do a rebuild. RV cams will wake a stock motor up quite a bit. However, you might have to put some thought into what you want out of the motor in the end.

Well i'm really not sure what the RV cam will do honestly but i have been told by everyone that it is the best thing for it. I want this motor to put out more power than a normal 400 and sound good. I am not even close to being at the rebuild point so i am not set with an RV cam or anything above stock really. I know already i will want a newer timing chain to get out of Fords emission ed chain, and i'll want the parts to make it a true 400.

bruno2 05-14-2012 11:09 PM

Yeah you have to get rid of the retarded timing set first thing. Just that alone really brings the 400 to life. There are a lot of 400.351M guys in the 80-86 forum. Chris (ctubutis the mod) is one of them. Gary Lewis is doing a lot of 351M work and research right now.

Not to hijack the thread anymore than I have. However, I wanted everyone to know that Chris(ctubutis the moderator) and I are good friends. I ragged him in that other thread that closed and sent him a PM with a link to it so he would see me railing on him.}> He posted a bunch of stuff that fraked this forums mod out so he closed it.:-X03

Ctubutis is a pretty good guy. He drove all the way from Denver CO. to Tulsa, OK to come to our FTEGTG. Then when he got here he took a lot of the pictures and made a thread about it. We had fun. I felt like crap and just about didnt make it. He kept sending me texts telling me to get out there. We kid around a lot in the 80-86 section. There is a lot of good guys there that will bend over backwards to help a brother out. We have one of the biggest "Free Parts" threads there also. You guys need to drop by and see whats ging on over there. Mike drops by a lot.

Yep, Chris is a great guy, I love his dazzling sense of fashion too, as he daringly and defiantly wears his bra against all conventions and odds :D.

What!!? Chris Is A Guy???:-X15

GruesomeJeans 05-15-2012 01:10 AM

Hahah yeah Chris is pretty cool. I figured if i am going to do any major motor work such as a timing chain i can just wait till i have it rebuilt. Anywho so i still don't know what a good lifter looks like compared to Bosses bronco's lifter..

Finally some progress

Sorry that it has been awhile since my last update. Been really busy with work. Between working my regular job and picking up a 2nd job as co-owner in a small lawn care company. I havent had much time to mess with the Bronco. So here's what has been going on:

-Motor is back in the shop. My builder has been going back and forth with his warehouse and Comp Cams...They won't warrantee anything.

-But My Builder is tearing down and going through the motor at no cost to me. So far everything has looked fine, So the Bronco dodged a bullet:-jammin

-So at that I decided that while were at that...Might as well upgrade}>

-My heads will be ported, polished, bowl work, Intake and exhaust will be all port-matched.

-Going full roller...Cam, lifters, rockers. Cam will be more aggressive...rougher idle(.529 lift). so she'll be making more power up top...Timing will be retarded a bit to lower the powerband from 6000rpm with the new setup to 5800rpm. Should be good for an extra 40hp and 50plus ft torque.:-X06

-So we think that she'll be able to rip off 14 sec 1/4 mile times.

So now that things are starting to move along again, I'll keep everyone updated as things progress.

Sucks that She's been missing out on all the good local cruises. But I'm gonna try to make it to the Holy Grail of all cruises at least : The Woodward Dream Cruise. Fingers crossed! :-X21

Thanks for the update man, sounds like things are going good so far. I wish i could do the same work on TGM's motor but, thats all in good time.

bruno2 07-24-2012 08:01 PM

Full roller baby!!!:-jammin:-jammin

Are you going with a full roller lifter or are you just going with the Ford style roller tip rocker arms?

The roller cams dont require any break in like the flat tappet or solid stuff does. So you cant go wrong with the roller cam.

I am sure you arent going back with comp. Are you going to buy one off the shelf or are you going "custom grind :-X22"?

I went custom out of fear that Lunati or crower or whoever would be using import stock like from Chiney:(. I know if a US company is doing custom stuff they will be using domestic steel because they wont be doing enough volume to need to buy from Pakistan.

Boss351Bronco88 07-25-2012 07:45 AM

Well, I can not remember off hand. We were talking back and forth about everything. lol...But actually, It will be a Comp Cam, lifters and rockers. He has lots of faith in their Roller stuff vs. the flat tappet. I trust his judgement, Him and his brother been doing this for over 30yrs.

I do know it is Comp's basic Aluminum Roller rockers(blue colored) He was Looking at Lunati, but they didnt have a grind that would fit my application. He has narrowed it down to 2 cams. Depending on how much flow he can get from my heads and intake, will determine which cam. Both cams are more lopey, one more than the other. But he wants to make sure I dont loose bottom end, Just trying to get some extra grunt up top.

Like I said in my last post, I am hoping that I'll get 14s in the 1/4 with her. I think that would be quite respectable for a 4600lb, 4x4, with no power adders:-X0A6

Boss351Bronco88 09-19-2012 08:16 PM

Hey ya'll...Been a bit. Should be getting the motor back here within the next couple days. I havent really messed with the truck other than purchasing some new goodies for it. So heres what Ive picked up so far...

Yea, Im pretty stoked about it myself. it be fun to mess with people, there's a local spot by my house where Everybody shows up with there cars. Ill pull in, just another Bronco. Then Ill open up the cutout and watch em all look around lol.

Boss351Bronco88 09-21-2012 07:55 PM

Decided to pick up a new head unit for the Bronco. Always have been partial to Alpine...Good quality stuff. This is one of their top of the line ones. It will wirelessly stream music from my phone via bluetooth. thought thats pretty nifty:-jammin

GruesomeJeans 09-22-2012 04:04 AM

Ah nice, Alpine is a pretty reputable brand. I am partial to bluetooth things, they are insecure and can offer bad reception for somethings but who knows, i have never used it for radios. I will stick to my 8' long auxiliary cord. My friends riding in the back no longer have to lean so far forward to change the songs while i drive.

Boss351Bronco88 09-24-2012 11:23 PM

Yea my friends turned me on to Alpine. An Ex bought me one back in 2005 for my birthday lol. It was in my:
96 Escort wagon
89 Caravan
91 5.0 HO Tbird
91 3.0 HotRod Aerostar
The Bronco(88)
04 Hyundai Elantra GT
and my 84 F250
Im finally retiring it...for now lol. Works like a charm still:D
