Aw man that doesn't sounds good. I thought i had a bad tick but mine proved to be an exhaust leak...

bruno2 05-09-2012 05:54 PM

I have a pretty radical tick that turned into a lot worse. I am hoping it is an exhaust leak, but, I havent pulled the header off to see it yet.

I posted some stuff in the what have you done to your truck thread about your problem Boss.

There might be an easy way to check using some sort of smoke or dust going into the intake. It might not be safe, but i am not sure.

bruno2 05-09-2012 08:26 PM

I have heard a little tranny fluid in the carb will make enough smoke to expose an exhaust leak.

GruesomeJeans 05-09-2012 08:36 PM

It might. I don't know enough bout this bit it might work. You could also run Seafoam, And that will create smoke.

Yea, And when this happened. My F250 was in the shop and they basically forgot about finishing up my truck. So its been a hell of a week. But my engine builder is researching up a comparable cam from a different company.

But this is also presenting a opportunity to take this Bronco in a unique direction. I've been wanting to go back to E.F.I...allthough a stand-alone aftermarket setup.(MSD, Holley, FAST, etc) And ZF5 speed trans swap as well. (For the creeper 1st and OD for cruising)....But,}> This is the best part, a STS rear-mount turbo setup.:-X04

Why you may ask? Well EFI for better mpg and driveability...easily upgradable. infinite tunabilty, and no worries of possible fuel starvation at akward angles. The ZF5, well, I love grabbing gears, and the OD would be nice for cruising down the freeway. And of course the creeper first gear if I feel the need to relocate the neighborhood lol.

And then the STS turbo...well, In the word of Rick Bobby "I like to go fast." Sure, I could sell her and buy a 'Stang or a F-Body. or something of the sort. But I'm all about the "Sleeper" look. something that hauls ass that you would never expect to. Yea speed isnt really something you need when you're out on a trail. But I know it'll spend more time on the street then anything. It comes down to I want a Fast Bronco lol. It will still be streetable, It will definately see some trail time. and also blasts down the drag strip.

This will be a major undertaking, A work in progress of sorts. And it will be on the road again soon. But for the above-mentioned changes. Those will be over time.

GruesomeJeans 05-10-2012 03:14 PM

It definitely is a huge undertaking, i say good luck sir. It sounds like you know what the plan is though.

Yes it will. But Ive always wanted to build something out of the ordinary, But here's some carnage pics of the bad lifter I pulled out of the motor.

The edges look a bit marred but the rest looks fine.. Whats a good lifter look like?

bruno2 05-11-2012 10:01 PM

Hey, we have the same phone!

Boss351Bronco88 05-14-2012 08:25 AM

Lol, that's my work phone. My personal phone is the LG Thunderbolt.

But on another note. I had a couple buddies come over and give me a hand on the tear down of the motor(again lol). It's amazing how much quicker things go when your working on a still fresh and clean truck, In just about a hour's worth of work, We were able to pull the front end off, the drive accesories, dizzy, and various wiring.

Boss351Bronco88 05-14-2012 08:36 AM

Also, Friday after work. I stopped at a local Speed shop to pickup my new AutoMeter gauges for the Diesel...Pyrometer and Tach. hung out for awhile with the owner and couple customers talking about what happened with the Motor. appearently theres been a few other guys running Comp Cams and they had several lobes wipeout. And Comp sent them a new cam and lifter set. With an apology letter. While I was told mine won't be. The guys told me to contact Comp again, they think maybe we spoke with a rep who was having a bad day. Regardless. This has soured my feelings for Comp. I dont think I can support their products after this.

I have read yer whole build thread. And I like what your doing. I am old school. Carbs and such. I am considering going fuel injected more for economy than anything.

GruesomeJeans 05-14-2012 04:37 PM

I too have been keeping up with the whole thread. It looks good so far but sorry to hear about your Cam issues. I eventally plan to have my motor rebuild professionally (don't call me a weeny or nothing) i just don't think i could get it done. I tried rebuilding a 302 we got fro free and once i got the heads off and the old stake gasket off i lost interest. I don't want that to happen with this motor. Plus if it is professional i will know it is done correctly the first time. I plan to do an RV cam and maybe even slight boreing of the cylinders.

bruno2 05-14-2012 09:58 PM

Mike I wouldnt support Comp after this either. Even if you do get an apology letter as well as a new cam and lifter set. I dont think I would run the stuff they sent me either. I would proably put it on Craigslist for a bargain and run someone elses products. I would be scared to have that set go bad and be in the same boat again.

That Samsung Rugby has been the only phone I can use at work. None of the others can take the abuse. I used to go through at least 2 phones per yr. TI can keep these Rugbys working for 2-3 yrs.

Gruesome, you will probably have to go at least .030" over from where your block is now whenever you do a rebuild. RV cams will wake a stock motor up quite a bit. However, you might have to put some thought into what you want out of the motor in the end.
