1966 f-100 Horn wire
might anyone know what color wire, or how to identify the wire that comes down the column from the horn button ?? Is this actually a hot wire,, or is it a ground wire that the button makes ground to blow the horn ?? I remember years ago having to get a good connection around the rag joint,, so I am thinking its a ground..... This truck has a seperate horn "switch" now, just above the ignition,, but I want it back stock....Thanks in advance for help....Dan

1961/66 F100/250 2WD (1967/70 F100/350):
The horn works thru the T/S switch, there is no separate wire. On the outside of the steering wheel, below the horn button or horn ring is a hole. The horn brush and its nylon insulator (C2OZ-13A821-A-kit) are hand pressed into it. Peeps remove the steering wheel, tilt it...the horn brush (sometimes the insulator) falls out. Then, when they reinstall the steering wheel, they wonder why the horn no longer blows. The horn brush has a tiny coil spring connected to a thin copper wire. It snaps, the horn no longer blows. The nylon horn button/horn ring retainer (C2DZ-13A809-A) has three "ears" on it. When one or more of the ears snap off, the button/ring fits catty-wampus...the horn may not blow as a result. Inside the horn ring is the horn blow pressure pad (CODF-13A813-A). It's rubber, flattens out over time. The horn then blows constantly. Peeps are unaware of this pad, so they disconnect the horn, usually by pulling the wire off the horn relay...located on the right fender inner apron, adjacent to the starter solenoid. The relay can short out...usually caused by water dripping onto the apron. |
Well, the turn signal switch will not cancel,, so do I need to get an entire T/S switch,, or what ?? ... What wire coming out of the T/S harness goes to the horn ?....Dan

What wire coming out of the T/S harness goes to the horn? You can buy a replacement cam at autoparts stores, but it doesn't fit worth a damn and so...is a b!tch to install. C9TZ-13341-C .. T/S Switch / Available from Ford / MSRP: $61.98 // FTE sponsor PARTSGUYED.COM price: $44.63. Applications: 1965/66 F100/250 2WD / 1966 F100 4WD / 1967/68 F100/350 / 1969 F100/350 before serial number G30,001. I haven't a clue which wire is for the horn. I know less about electricity than a mule knows about tap dancing! I was a Ford partsman, not an electrician. |
I'll be dog.....I found something you did not know......
You are human,,, a walking, talking, ford parts computer...:-X21 Thanks for your help...Dan |
Wiring Diagram
1 Attachment(s)
Here's a pretty good basic schematic.
Has colors and what not? I printed both pages at about 125% and taped them together in the center so I can read it better when I am working on the truck. Looks like White with a Blue stripe? |
Bill, do you happen to know if anyone has the horn brush and insulator? the 63 is missing em.

Carpenter's 1957/66 truck repro parts catalog (2011 paper version) pictures the horn brush on page 20, uses this same part number, but the insulator is not shown or made mention of. If you need the insulator(s), suggest you call and ask if the insulator comes with the brush: 800-476-9653. If not, while obsolete, there are 100's of these kits still available from Ford Dealers/obsolete parts vendors. C2OZ-13A821-A .. I am not sure if it is the same on the 66 as it is on the 64 I would bet it is... but the horn wire on mine is blue with a yellow stripe... it is just a ground from the relay to the horn button... I just changed mine out this past weekend so I had to figure which was which. I had a bad horn contact in the TS switch some of the switches have a plain yellow wire for the horn button, but most I have seen are the blue with yellow stripe. Hope that helps! The horn contact AKA brush is wired through the TS switch.. so you have to buy the whole caboodle. If it is not canceling, and you are having horn issues.. just get a new switch! Replacing the cam only helps if it will not cancel as you turn the wheel. On mine though the metal cam on the wheel itself was broken , not the plastic witch cam.... NPD has the switches pretty reasonably priced, and The Truck store in Orange CA. has the metal cancel cam! |
The T/S switch used on 1963/64 F100/250 2WD's (C3TZ-13341-B) is 1963/64 only.
The steel cancelling cam (C3MY-13318-A) that attaches to the underside of the steering wheel is the same: 1963/67 F100/250 2WD, 1968/70 F100/350. |

Bill the replacement switch I got, I was told by both contacts that you refered me to is now the same for 64-66 I purchased the part they told me was correct, it is Repro. with the ford labeling, and it works just fine in my 64 it had one minor difference, but it didn't effect the operation at all. they told me that the 64 switch is now obsolete, except for cheap chinese knock offs, which was what the PO had in it. contacted : C3TZ-13341-B .. The repro switch might be the same, but the genuine Ford original switch is not.

Just a piece of advice from my experience. Check out your horn relay as well, I fought with my horn until it dawned on me to chase the whole thing to the horn. My issue was the relay on the right inner fender.
