obd scan tool won't link
 

i bought an innova 1303 scan tool, did update, upgrade for abs. Tool says unable to establish a link with vehicle. It said this before i updated the tool also. is there a password on my vehicles computer or something? Code reader works on my dads dodge so i'm assuming it isn't the problem.

Is the cigarette lighter working? If it isn't check the fuse. The OBDII port and it share the same fuse

Yes both the power point and the cigarette lighter work.

Are you sure its compatible with a SD. I'm not familiar with a lot of the scanners on the market.

Ok I don't know what sd is but I am new to all of this and I THOUGHT that this scanner was compatible with all '96 and newer ford, Chrysler, and Chevys.

SD is short for super duty, I've only used snapon and HD ( Harley Davidson) scanners. sorry i cant be more help

Do you have the Key in 'Ignition on, engine off' position? It is a compatible scanner.

According to the website it is a compatible scanner for this pickup. And yes I do have the key on. It doesn't seem to work with the engine running either.

It will not link properly with the engine running. Try a DTC reader from a local parts store to see if it is the fault of the scanner or truck. This will eliminate whether the scanner you purchased is a bum tool or not.

To piggyback on ToMang's post-I have a Scantool that works great with several vehicles so far, but it is very limited when it comes to Power Strokes. Did finally get it to connect to my PSD, but about all I got were a couple of things like engine rpm. I did have some trouble establishing communication, which I don't normally have with other vehicles.

the website states that if the vehicle has a sticker under the hood that has OBD II Certified, it will work on that vehicle. this pickup has that sticker. Is this not accurate?
