Need help big time

I got a 460 BBF 74 or 76 that is bored .040 everything stock , except for a 1407 Edelbrock. The motor was in the rain & water got in the cylinders, so I took it apart and broke glaze on the walls as well as some minor rust. I replaced the rod bearings and head gaskets, but the rings looked almost new so I just put everything back together as this motor looks like it was rebuilt not to long ago. I did not remove the timing chain, but did pull the dist. (Ist question), where do the timing marks on the cam gear and crank line up? I put the top gear at 6:OO and the crank at 12:00 using the "0" instead of this ^ symbol on the crank gear. Did I do right?? (2nd question) can anyone tell me what size the engine is now, being bored .040 I believe everything is stock, crank is std. also on the compression gauge #1 reads 30, (turning the engine by hand) but nothing on any of the other holes. Turning this monster by hand is murder, but why don't any other hole read something on the gauge? Does it need to be cranked to read on the gauge?
Thank You all so Much

1. Yes.
2.Yes, you need to be turning it over with the starter

just wondering how to make it a 500 cid without going broke. Also do we sell parts on the form like we do on my Ham sight? I need some minor things.

You would have around 1500-2000 in a bottom end balanced. Then your block would need bored, align honed, and decked. The heads, D0 or D3 vs aluminum would be a toss up. By the time you worked over a set of iron heads with bigger valves, a new set of aluminum heads for around 2k might be the best option. From there gaskets, valve train, cam, timing chain, intake, carb, headers, oil pump, etc and your probably going to be getting close to 6k, thats with you doing all the work.
With the price of crate motors with warrenties it's questionable weather or not it would be worth it.

You took care of that for me on the hurry up side:-X22 its going to remain a 468 and be happy.
Thanks Again

DocDave there is a marketplace section for parts, vehicles etc. What exactly are you looking for? You will need to be sure of the year as Ford changed the balance on the 460 in 79. I am building a .040 over 460 for my truck.
