Replacing a VCR from a 2001 expy with a DVD
I recently got a 2001 expedition as a work vehicle and it came with a VCR in the center console.
Is there an easy way to swap this VCR for a DVD player without too much hassle? I dont know much about cars, or wiring, but id rather do it myself than take it somewhere and get hosed on having them install it. Does anyone know if there is a specific DVD player or brand that would fit best thus eliminating alot of extra cost in new hardware and labour. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks |
i also have the same problem i got my in the rear top of the 3row seat but it seems the company closed so i couldnt get a dvd player.

Had the same VCR setup in the center console in my 2001 Expy.
Ended up pulling the factory radio and removing the VCR and 6 disc changer and put a Jensen in-dash flip up screen up front. (Rear screen also works with the in dash DVD) I'll try to get pics of the wires that got spliced into if your interested... |

I know this is kinda old, but was wondering if you had pics of wires to tap into rear screen or know which colors.
I have the FMC (tm) 2001 Expedition/Navigator Wiring Diagrams manual (dead tree version) and there is no mention of "VCR" in it that I could find. The only thing I can find is GPS Navigation System and Cellphone that even comes close or mentions video of any kind. Could this VCR be a dealer installed option? Does it look like a factory harness? I wouldn't think it be too hard to trace out... Ground wire, +12VDC wire, Maybe some control wiring, Shielded video cable/wire, The shield could be "shared" with ground too potentially. |
Oooops
Ok, my bad....
They call it "Rear Seat Entertainment" and video cassette player. Section 132 of the Wiring Diagram manual, dead trees version. At the VCR, connector C395 is a 16 pin rectangular connector. http://i45.tinypic.com/2i0ywao.jpg |
