the red rust rod transforms to the satin black flat rod
here's the short version of the story:
purchased 1977 $200, had engine rebuilt, daily driver 7 years made an awful grinding engine noise 2x, took off road 1984 got it out in 2006, down in cyl, one blown piston/scored cyl found cheap used flatty, did ez wire, 3 summers daily driver from 2008 to 2010 enter the Flat Rod II (flat motor, flat paint): dual master, ford 9" 3.50, structural box repair, extensive floor, cab corner, mounts, upper front and rear fender patches, new fiberglass running boards, front fender lowers, grill, lower grill pan (we worked ave. 2 days per week from late nov. to now, approx 60 work days on f1) skilled work by my brother in law, unskilled by me. starting my summer driving season today. thanks to all for the good advice, especially ross (albuq f-1) http://i856.photobucket.com/albums/a...IM000638-1.jpg http://i856.photobucket.com/albums/a...ddone020-1.jpg http://i856.photobucket.com/albums/a...46/f-11984.jpg |

Looks great!! What flat black did you use?
Brian |
Ooo that's nice.

we used eastwood hot rod flat black, it is listed as flat but then talks about satin finish. by design it leaves a little texture/orange peel. mine will be a summer driver/small project work truck (in fact it went to work today). we are happy with the look.

Hey Dick,
It looks great! I can't believe you got rid of those nice turn signals mounted up on the fender. I liked your story of how much work & effort went into getting it back in shape - I've got a 1950 & I've got about the same amount of effort in it. It's surprising how long it takes to fix the non-mechanical stuff like the cab structure. Great Job! Ben in Austin |
Looks very nice! I'm a sucker for black.

Nicely done
looks great Bobby |
Nothing like a coat of DP90 to make a truck look new.
