"P0528, Fan Speed Sensor: No Signal" Found the problem need part.
It seems that my electric fan clutch on my 2005 F-350 (82,716 miles) has failed. The wiring back to the PCM is good, and I can't positively check the wiring to the fan clutch itself, I have no schematic for it. But in doing some research it seems that almost all of the time, when this code is shown, with no visible wire damage, the electric clutch has failed.
Does anyone have a good resource for this part? I have seen ones advertised for as much as 447.00 and as little as 156.00. I want a quality part with out getting taken to the cleaners!! Thank you! |
Try Tousley Ford parts.
Tousley Ford Parts Depot Cooling system - Cooling fan - Fan clutch Fan clutch, f350, 6.0l diesel 03-07 $470.38 Your price-----------$284.58 |
Thought it would copy page for fan clutches, but it didn't.

The part number for the standard fan clutch is: 4C3Z-8A616-AA
The heavy duty "snow plow" clutch is: 4C3Z-8A616-SA (around $300 at Tousley) |
Thank you both for the input! I have a camping trip this weekend, I will get this replaced afterward. In my driveway, more than likely!

Did ur P0528 code stay all the time or was the code poping up intermitentally?

This should show how to replace the clutch:

Well, Bismic helped both of us out there! My temperatures, no load (Not hauling our Fifth Wheel) oscillate between 188 and 192 for Coolant and Oil when the truck is warmed up. In the morning there has been as much as a 7-10 degree split for the first 5 minutes, oil temp lagging coolant temp. I drove to and from Acadia from New Hampshire with this condition. I was not aware of what the code really was until reaching Acadia, where a friend worked with me to install the Edge Insight I have now and checking FTE for further info. My Degass bottle had been spitting, as it turns out, on the way to Acadia and then on the way back. This was caused, I am sure now, by the loss of additional cooling not being provided by the Fan Clutch due to its failure to "Step-Up". On the way back home, now monitoring temps with the Edge, I had reached 205-210 F coolant temp, maybe higher, on hills and grades. These temps rapidly decreased once cresting the hill or grade. Although I was close to alarm points on several occasions, I got no more than a warning chirp from the Insight. Short answer is yes, under load I am seeing higher temperatures. I hope to have that corrected next Friday. Eric |
Sounds like me. Empty i am seing 205-210 coolant temps. Sounds like my issues about to get worse! But my degas bottle hasnt been doing what yours is doing
Thanks bismic! |

Well let us know. I have the new cap to

Well the camping trip went well. With a surprise. I decided to wait on the degass bottle cap because when I went to the Ford dealer and asked for a new cap they brought one out that looked very much like the photos of the new cap But was still 16 Pei and not the 20 Psi that was referred to in the thread I was reading.
I had a little bit off spitting but nothing like before, on my way back from Acadia. Coolant is clean. Oil is new, just changed it. Towing temps ECT/EOT with in 5 degrees with the exception of hills where I could see a 10 degree difference with ECT being higher. 210 was Max ECT. here is the surprising thing... At ECT of 210 the fan clutch kicked in and quickly dropped temp to about 195 before returning back to normal rpm. The electric fan clutch worked just fine. The code P0528 Fan Clutch Sensor: No Signal, remains. So I am a little confused and am now going to go through disassembling the shrouds and inspect the harness a bit closer. It is possible that when the clip broke the harness was slightly clipped and caught one of the wires for the sensor. The PCM is calling for the fan, the fan is response ding but can't talk to the PCM. A much less expensive repair. Hopefully this will help some one else along the line. Love my Edge...and my big 6.0! Are you getting a P0480 along your P0528? If it's just a P0528 you're getting alone, it likely means your PCM is not reading the actual Fan RPMs, but still operational (which is the important part). If you were getting a HARD P0480 and P0528 together, I would say the fan blade ate the actual harness. The dealer level test of its operation, is to run the engine at 2500 RPMs STEADY. Take active command of FAN_VAR Duty Cycle from 0% to 100%, and fan speed should instantly rise to 2800 RPMs and beyond.
In the OP's case, if I were to guess, I would say that it would likely pass the above described test, but not indicate the FAN RPMs. |
