63 neutral safety switch

Alrighty howdy guys, im in this branch of the forum on behalf of my dad, and if all goes well, soon to be here for my own truck. Anyhow, he has a 63 F-100 sclb 2wd 292 auto. The neutral safety switch in its old age is so finicky you cant even get it started sometimes, used to be if you were about halfway between reverse and neutral and had your tongue in your cheek just right it woul fire right up. But after sitting for the last year it seems to have gotten even pickier. So if you guys could help me out with where the switch is located so i can bypass it, i would really appreciate it.

The NSS is located on the steering column, but by-passing it is a bad idea, because the truck can then be started in any gear.

Since it's history, replace it with a new switch, there are a coupla dozen still available.

Alright thanks bill. Ill let him know about getting one, but im sure he doesnt care about it being "unsafe" hes strictly the only one that ever drives it, and due to the switch, has been starting it in reverse for the past 20 years. Thanks for the info. You say on the steering column, but i wonder if you mean IN the column i looked all over for it and didnt see it, he thinks its under the blinker switch. Thanks again.

There is a squarish hole in the mast jacket (steering column shroud). Parts catalog pic shows it to be there. Trace the wires to find it.

It cannot be below the T/S switch (mounts to the upper flange) because it's engaged via the shift tube.

It is on the top of the column facing towards the dash.

Alrighty thanks guys, sounds like it shouldnt be too hard to find once we get the steering wheel off.

No need to remove the wheel. it is mounted to the outside of the column between the mount and the floor on the upper crown of the column outer tube.
