take a picture of the diff, or it is stamped on the axle beside the diff cover either a 44 or a 60.

just woundering how you can tell from looking at the lockouts?

i allways just look to see if it has kingpins and the diff cover

Deluxetruck 09-12-2011 04:58 PM

The lockout just looks a little different. The way the bevel is around the outside, the recess of the allen screws, the overall size of it. I've found enough that I generally can tell from a good distance. I thought about glossing myself the "Dana 60 hunter", but 'm pretty sure I'm the only one that would find that funny. Family and friends would disown me, I'd probably lose my job. It might be worth it though, or not.

EDIT- The last part of this is tongue in cheek, as in not serious. You know, meant to be funny. I get a funny feeling from the posts below this that it's not coming off that way.

He can't, it's either a 44 or 60, need more info to discern.

Like I said, I've found a few. The factory spicer lockouts on a D60 Ford front axle are unique. Don't hate on me because I can tell that from a photo.

Not "hatin" dude, just relaying facts, a D44 hub is depicted below, how you discern that from D60 via a pic is beyond me, must have special powers...

Yeah, except you just posted a picture of a D60 kingpin front axle. Is that not the four bolt kingpin retaining plate I see at the very top of the pic on the far knuckle?
