Hello, Just bought a 65 F-250
 

Yes I know I posted the same thing as another guy did this morning just one year difference... I thought it was funny.

Anyway today I picked up a 1965 F250 2wd. It has a flatbed on it. The story goes that it originally had a camper on the back. Not a camper ontop of the bed but an actual camper. I have yet to see a 1965 ford camper. So my first question is, do these exist. Was there a company that took cab and chassis truck from the factory and put full campers on the back? Next supposedly the motor in it from the factory is a 360 or 390. Is this possible? Everything I have found says the biggest motor they put in these trucks was the 352. But again suposedly because it was a full camper it had a bigger motor.

So perhaps something on the door plate can help sovle some of these mysteries. And thats where you all come in... So far I have figured out from the vin that its an f250 and was built in San Jose.

The VIN # is F250R502915 (not 100% sure on the last two digits)

The Body Code is 681 and the Trans is "F"... It has a 4spd stick in it.

The extra gauges and the dash pad tell me its a custom cab but that's if it hasn't been replaced some where down the road.
Other then that I hop you find what you need your ride and i think 352 is the largest it came in for that year.

Nolan, I think you may have a coat of many colors. The dash, windshield trim, & grill say custom cab, then the bumper is painted, no body side mold, or inside door trim, maybe some others.

352 was the only V8 offered in 65. The data plate photo sez F25C, that should be a 292 for 61-64. If your VIN is F25D rather than F25O that is 352 for 65.

You might need to check the top of the passanger side frame rail. You will be looking for the stamped in vin #. Check in the engine bay and under the cab area.Check to see if it matches the driver door tag. That should keep you busy for a few minutes.

There is suppose to be trim it has the wholes for it it is just not with the truck... So heres a theory, Newer frame and motor and older cab??? there is enough gap between the flat bed and the frame rail that perhaps i could see the vin# with a small mirror. Any idea how where along it, it should be? Also are there some key ways just by looking at the motor to tell if it is a 352 or 360/390? I herd someone tell me the exhaust manifold looks different or ????

Is this a 1964 or a 1965?

The Warranty Plate & VIN = 1964 F250 2WD (assembled 2/1964) Standard Cab / 292 2V / Warner T-98 4 speed / Dana 60 Rear Axle 4.10-1 w/Limited Slip / Wimbledon White / H/D Black Vinyl bench seat.

Grille (1965 Custom Cab), upper grille panel & parking lights (1965/66-all), sweep speedo instrument cluster bezel (1965/66 F100/250 2WD Custom Cabs).

Caribbean Turquoise: Steering column and steering wheel, inner left/right A pillar, left hinge post does not match the 1964 Warranty Plate.

A previous owner has either swapped parts around, or...

Compare the VIN on the registration with the VIN on the Warranty Plate to see if they match.

People swapped damaged left doors with used doors. 99% of the time, they did not install the original Warranty Plate on the replaced door.

Side mouldings, chrome front bumper were optional on all models (except Rangers), did not come with any package (ditto tu-toned paint), so will be seen on both Custom & Standard Cabs.

Dizzy behind the carb: 292 Y block / Dizzy in front of carb FE engine (1965/67 352 only).

The truck may have been purchased as a Cab & Chassis, then the original purchaser may have had a frame mounted camper installed.

Ford did not offer their own line of campers till 1973 (shell & over the roof type for 8' Stylesides).

Thanks Bill... Im going to read that 3 more times and hopefully retain all of it... hahaha im too sharp. The truck body color was originally turqois and white two tone but i know there has been some part swtiching so anything is possible... Which makes think of the fact that the drivers side door has obviously been off on the account that whoever did a horrible job of remounting it/ a different one. So the next question would be the vehicle has been non-opped for 16 years (supposedly) if the paperwork and door plate dont match what is our wonderful DVM going to say... Im no amature when it comes to dealing with the DMV and no amature when working on old cars/trucks but this is my first time dealing with what might be a frankstien...

The Warranty Plate cannot be original to the truck if it was tu-toned originally.

1964 Warranty Plate COLOR code M = Wimbledon White. If tu-toned, there would be two codes. If Caribbean Turquoise/Wimbledon White: BM

Compare the VIN on the registration to the VIN on the Warranty Plate.

IMO, it's a 1965, because the dash is 1965 (it was welded in, so changing it would be a PITA). See the round dimple on the upper far right hand corner of the dash?

Notice the button on the left for the w/shield washers.

1961/64 F100/250's had cables in these two locations you pulled for ventilation. None on 1965/66 F100/250 2WD's.

1961/64's did not have a button for the washers. If so equipped, the washers were operated by either a manually operated or electric foot pump.

So from these two pics my friend sent me it is apperent that the drivers side door is not original ofcourse anything can be repainted but...

F25 = F250 2WD / D = 352 2V / R = San Jose CA Assembly Plant / 637663 = 1965, assembled January 1965.

Original paint scheme COLOR codes: Caribbean Turquoise (B) & Wimbledon White (M).

The 1965 F100 2WD I bought new in March 1965 was assembled in San Jose CA in January 1965. :)

So it is a 1965 ford f250 with a 352 sweet thank you Bill reps for everyone!

So the next question is...

I just checked online and the vehicle is out of the DMV records.

Good news is: No back registration less headache in transfering title

Bad news: IF they are going to want a saftey inspection and vin verification (sometimes the do sometimes they dont) where is that going to leave me with the door being from a different truck???

No smog required, too old. Last time I had to pass a CHP safety inspection on an old rolling pile of miseries, JFK was prez.

Did you get a bill of sale along with the title?

If not...look around, see if you can "come up with one with the amount of your choice." Then waltz down to Triple A (SoCal Auto Club or whatever it's called in 'maryjaneville') and register the puppy there.

No long lines, no appointment necessary, no stupid CA DMV clucks to deal with, but it's best to get there early.

I didnt think to go to AAA since thats where i have insurance through... Perhaps that will keep me from having to do dumb things...
