17.2 in the 1/4...

well i took my truck to the local dragstrip with the "new" limited slip in it, and with 31x10.5x15's the truck ran a 17.2, it's an 89 regular cab short bed 302 with an AOD mods are: exhaust, shift kit, the limited slip rearend(3.55's), and a K&N filter. the truck had no problem with traction. i'm going to wrap my intake with air duct insulation(read in a post that it helps) and advance my timming to 12-14 BDTC at idle. maybe get a shorter belt to bypass the smog pump and maybe it'll hit 16's.

More timing = premuim fuel. Get some headers too. A shorter belt won't do much. Get some used pullies if you have a big alternator.

I figure mine runs in the low 15's. Not bad, but enough to burn a 5.9 Dakota R/T! Hahaha

I have: 4.30:1 w/ 8 clutch Trac-Lok, Flowmaster catback, 3" cat, 2.5" Y pipe w/ 5.0 Stang headers, Built AOD, TransGo shift kit, BBK FP Regulator, ASP Underdrive Pullies, FMS MAF Kit, 80mm meter, K&N FIPK, MSD 6AL and Coil, FMS 9mm wires, Goodyear Hi-Miler hoses

The MSD, 4.30's, and FP regulator are going in next week. I currently have 3.55's in there.

Just keep at it, it will slowly get faster.

and the point of doing 17.2 is what exactly...sharp looking truck, but I think your a bit confused as to what it's primary use is. I'd be lucky if my F150 would do 2 minutes in the standing quarter, but if you could put a hitch on your house you would add a whole new dimension to "RV'. 89" F150 super cab W/460c6/ 4/10posi.

ahhh now see theres the beauty of a fast truck....the whole sleeper aspect...no one expects a farmtruck to beat a vette in a race....and when you do and people go "wow,...geez" its all worth it...that is the fun part...and for some that is the point....some tow and some race....and some do both... ;)

thanks for all the coments on my truck, lightning i couldn't say it any better about the sleeper look, and baja i've done nothing to my truck to reduce towing capacity, granted it is a 302 and dosen't pull much, but everythin i do to make it faster will prolly help the towing aspect. my goal is low 15's high 14's normally asprated without Nitrous. but i'll have to see how it goes, hit man i'd like to know more about your truck, sounds like the setup i want.

Sleepers are the best! I used to have an '88 TownCar that ran 8.5's in the 1/8th! I miss that car :-X16 should have kept it instead of trading it for the WRX.

Justin...

I get a bunch of parts used. That is a great way to slice corners.

Bump the timing to 13-15* depending on what gas you can get 91-93 octane. Get an adj fuel regulator (I got a used BBK for $55) and get the pressure to 38lbs vac line on, 42-44 vac line off. (I think that is how it changes)

My setup is the cheap way for speed. A full exhaust really helped a ton, and it was cheap as heck too. About $400 all said and done: $75 cat, $75 muffler, $150 Y-pipe, $15 headers (stock 5.0, I am gonna buy some BBK really soon), $40/tail pipe.

I need to update my list as I am not going to put that trac-lok in since it is for the wrong spline count! I am going with an Eaton.

Those pullies made a nice difference for the money...$75! Make sure you get a 130A alternator if you put them on or you will have charging problems. Why not upgrade that junk 65A anyway...it is only $90 from alterstart(No Email Addresses In Posts!) I installed them with my air tools, very quick about 1 hour. That alternator install is very easy too.

I went to MAF b/c of the ease of future tuning. You probably can stay away unless you are silly like me and are going to build a 392/AFR heads/cam. That 80mm meter came off a Mustang, I just swapped electronics to the older 89-93 ones.

FIPK makes about 8rwhp difference, not too much but the sound difference is incredable(sp?). Since yours is speed density, just that FIPK filter is like $40. Someone with a Bronco made a homebrew intake for about $50, looked fine.

The MSD is going in next week. Gears will have to wait considering my radiator is leaking hardcore from part of the rows, too bad it isn't a seal. :( The gears will make a monster difference as will a higher stall converter. The stockers stall at 2200rpm, it is decent. I'd get a 2600-2800 stall w/ 2.5 STR (torque multiplier) to get that beast off the light.

I'd say with all bolt-ons, gears, and a converter you could probably get into the low 14's easily, maybe faster.

well my friend thought his 86 camaro was pretty fast but i proved him wrong today with my truck, his car is a stock 305 automatic, i left him sittin at the line and he didn't catch up, now my next goal is an 01 F-150 regular cab short bed with a 4.6L, i know it's a ford and i should really be trying to beat my friends 97 chevy but i don't like the guy that drives the ford. i've raced him before without my limted slip and he had to play catch up but he did catch and pass me, pulled a car length and then it was pretty even(i couldn't gain and he couldn't pull away) but i think it'll run a high 16 in the 1/4 and we are racing this weekend, i'm using smaller tires off of my friends truck(225/60/15's?) hopefully i'll get traction and improve my times.

Justin89 you should put a cam shaft out of a 1987-1991 mustang in your 302. The mustang has a hydraulic roller cam shaft. Almost all of the 1987 and up 302 pickup blocks are machined to accept the cam. You will need to chang the firing order to the 302 High Output order.
The mustangs cam is just about as radical of a cam that you can use with the pickups speed density fuel injection. If you do decide to do this you will need the camshaft, lifters and the metal brace that holds the lifters straight. The only other difference between the pickups 302 and the mustangs 302 is that the mustang has forged pistons.

The Pickup 302 is rated at 185 hp
The Mustang 302 is rated at 225 hp.

Jbooker, the mustang cam has no lowend toqure though, also a diff intake, and it likes to be in a higher RPM range, i do need more topend but that's because i'm tryin to run 31x10.5x15's, but it's ok i have 235/65/15's on it now(my friend's tires) makes it look like a sissy truck, but if it makes it faster i don't care. when i get gears i should be able to run the 31's but i'll have to see. i doubt i'll change a cam at all, i mostly want to stay with bolt on stuff
