Trailer tow extra wire?

Essentials first: my sig truck.
It has the factory installed trailer tow harness, but looking at the wiring diagram for the truck, it shows a red/light green wire coming off the brake controller for trailer stop lamps. The harness also has other wires hooked into the combo turn/stop lamp system for the truck. However, the original harness had no provision for reverse lights. Would anyone see a problem with taking the "extra" stop lamp wire, and hooking it into the reverse lights, as long as I marked the wire as being used as such, instead of the brake controller?
Thanks

Should work ok. What type of back-up lamps are you using? An normal set should be fine, but some sort of extra large type light should have a relay for it, since a large draw may shorten the life of the truck's back-up switch. I am assuming you are going to try and intercept this extra wire along the frame somewhere? Otherwise you will have to pick up the reverse light wire and run it into the cab to hook it to the red/green wire that goes to the brake controller plug.

Howdy, Dave
I was thinking of putting a relay in the system, due to the fact that I have seen some powerful looking reverse lights on some of the rv type trailers. And I sure don't want to fry the switch. Guess it's just a matter of picking a spot for the tie-in (probably close to the plug for the transmission harness).
Thanks

DUH! Somehow I missed it earlier (too much of a hurry?), the harness already has a wire for reverse lights. (black w/purple trace). Getting too old to try to go so fast, I guess!
