sealed 4x4 bearings????

Howdy all,
Need a little info. Got a 2000 4x4 250 super duty and I went to do a little p&m on my front wheel bearings and to my surprise no way. Now I am from the old school and belive in the good old do-it-yourself way. But guess those days are gone. Any one know about this system? Ford says lifetime but I know thier ain't noway I am guessing thier life time is probley 100,000 miles, so what then? Do you have to go back to Ford and have new ones pressed on? If so recon that will cost an arm and leg. any info will be greatly appreciated . Thank you

You're exactly right. Lifetime.. whose lifetime?? I've read anywhere from 20,000 miles to 80,000 miles. There is 1 or 2 aftermarket companies making new bearings. Otherwise you're looking at about $350 each from Ford.

Hi all, I don't like the unit bearings either. Dyna TRac does make a kit, it costs about $2500 big one's!!!!!!!!!!!! I wanted just the baerings and hubs butt they say they cannot sell it like that because it was designed to be usedas a kit along with thier cross-over steering and some other parts. Just a way to milk the people out of all our money I say. My opinion...if they would make just a kit to convert the hubs and bearings they would sell a million kits. Just had to rant. Thanks for listening.

They use a special knuckle that has 5 holes in it. Ours only has 4. So at the minimum you would have to buy their knuckles also.

I have designed a fixed spindle design that uses standard replaceable bearings and bolts directly to the stock knuckle. It's still being tested, and it probably won't be released until next year. That's all I can say for now, but stay tuned....

I guess I have been lucky, I replaced My left side bearing at 137,000 miles, and the right side is still ok at 142,000 miles.:-X22

I would be cheaper to find a whole used dana 60 with low miles at the junkie and install that.Much better than the cheap dana 50 that the 99 thru 01 have.:(

I did not have to go to a Ford dealer to have the left front wheel bearing replaced. I was lucky, I was on My way to Ford Performance Specialists to have the Autometer guages installed, and have the inner needle bearings lubed. The cost was $356.00 for the bearing, and $162.00 in labor for the replacement of the bearing, and the inners lubed. I would think any decent repair shop could handle the job. I would inquire to their previous experience.

stumpy, it doesn't require changing rotors or anything else. It simply replaces the factory unit, and even uses your factory hub lock (or aftermarket one too).

I'll definitely let everyone know the moment it's ready.

Nickdoni,

I'm not sure what junkyard you go to but I've had zero luck finding a 02 or 03 60 for the front of my 99. I imagine it would cost a ton if you could.

Could you use a 97 with our hubs and spindles so you have the same lug pattern??
