Tools or parts youve built YOURSELF
I dont want to see pics of half arsed traction bars, bumper mounted jib cranes or a little bend put in a box wrench. Post up some real tools, shop items or parts BUILT BY YOU (not by some guy you know) to make your life easier or work better.
I guaran****intee by page 2 some idiot wont read the above and post and will have a pic of a rusty piece of angle iron bubble gummed under a rusty frame to lower their spring hangers but this IS NOT what this thread is about. Post up some good stuff if its possible from FTE. |
Also, THIS is not a built by you tool for removing an oil filter

meh, you don't need fancy tools when you do the job right :flipoff:
about the only times i've ran into spots where i could rig a spare tool to do the job better was when i was cutting corners to hurry up on a job. and i really haven't done any major work since getting my welder, so no home built tools. do ground down "thin" wrenches count? :D p.s. did you ever finish and try out your press? |

I have about $30 in mine and about $10 in different attachments Ive made. Im going to attempt to build a press brake but I may just buy the HD kit without a backstop from this guy on Pirate and weld it myself. i don't have any tools here, they are all in the old shop.
i made a lot of wrenches out of flat stock and a plasma cutter. |
I'll have to get a pic, but Nick and I made a few spindle pullers to attach to a slide hammer. Makes changing axle shafts much faster and easier when you don't have to fight with getting the spindle off. Not anything special, but functional. We have one for a D60, D44, and D35, with a total cost of about $10
Also, I've made some tools for machining barrels on a lathe. Special cutters and broaching tips mostly. |
Let's see this *****!

Here are some useful homemade tools:
The pressurized wine bong: http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/b...G/102_4579.jpg The drunken BBQ spatula and tong set: http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/b...G/102_4598.jpg And a couple of tools (but not useful): http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/b...102_4601-1.jpg http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/b...G/IMG_1069.jpg :/flipoff |
I've made a few things over the years. This is a puller I made for Dana 60 & 70 differential side bearings. Anyone that works on them knows how damn expensive one is to buy. You put the round piece in the axles hole in the carrier so the puller has something to seat against, put the 2 halves together around the bearing then the hose clamp, bolt the puller to the top and remove it. It's never hurt a bearing.

Edit: I fail for not reading the entire OP :flipoff:
