I looked and did not see a pic topic post pic of your van cutaway camper :)

I believe there are individual user galleries along with a larger general gallery for such things.
As a work truck I've thought about the bus type vehicles; tons of interior room, great head room and plenty of customization options too. Sadly my neighborhood has a prohibition against any commercial vehicle especially those with dual rear wheels. As a camper that body would also be excellent--basically just an empty room with wheels! |
My motorhome. 1987 E350 6.9L Diesel, C6.

nice is the motorhome single or dual wheel out back hard to see
|
Dually wheel.
|
Cool. I want add dual wheels to the back of my bus but I don't know what it would take to do it. We took a trip a while back and had some extra weight on the way back home and it was all over the road made a 6 hour trip a 9 hour trip. I think that the dual wheels would help.
|
Dual wheels defenently help keep it stable, but what helps alot more is sway bars. I only have a front sway bar, non in the back and on a windy day, it's all over the road.

Love that van, Vanaroo. Where do you find a clean oldie like that?

When I'm in the doghouse (which is most of the time) I clean and paint any parts I have to remove to get to the one I'm working on. The only thing that hasn't been off yet is the pan and its next! Gasket has a little leak. Previous owner said van sat for 6 years and I think it just dried out and cracked. |
I bought a 1989 F150 with a 300/6 brand new and drove it 22 years. Basically, my life outgrew the regular cab so I bought the E350. Anyways, that motor was fantastic and the only problems I had were oil leaks from siting too much while I was away trucking.
|
I haven't tinkered with engines in over 30 years and I thought the 300 would be "simple" enough for me to work on. I've become a real "fan" for the 300.
|
I'm a real fan of your van! You have no idea how I'd love to find an extended panel van, with a sliding door with either a IDI Diesel or 300!
I will not accept any other engine! I don't care if it's a half ton or a 1 ton though. I'd rather have a 1 ton though, better axle. |
Thanks John. I don't know what its like in Canada but down here in the South its hard to find an oldie that isn't rusted out. I got lucky. Out West (where I'm from originally) there's a bunch of vintage tin in really good shape. I hope you find one someday! But get a 300:)
|
Hard to find rust free in the south? There everywhere down there!!!
Here i'm in the salt belt, and everything rots if not kepted clean all through winter! There is one not to far from me, been sitting in a driveway for 6 years, it's a pull panel van, with sliding door, no idea on year or engine, but it's what i'm looking for, i'm gonna stop by when I have time and talk with the owner, see if hes interested in getting rid of it :D |
If its more than 15 years old its got rust down here. If they're expecting a measley 1/2" of snow they dump salt everywhere. Plus, I think the high humidity has a lot to do with it. I was surprised coming from California where a 30 year old auto has very little rust. In 1975 I had a '35 Ford coupe in CA with almost no rust. Down here the bottoms of doors and any other body cavity almost always have holes. I drove a cherry '71 F100 out here in '97, from CA and by 2000 it was rusting all over.
Don't mean to hi-jack this thread. Better let 'em post some pics here:) |

Hey guys. Meet my van:-jammin
It was a gift from my dad who's worked on it since his uncle Glen purchased in in around 1990. She was originaly owned by Boeing, Seatle. Mechanicaly it's fine: New brakes f&R, new suspendtion f&R and my dad rebuilt the engine in the early 2000's. She just need's some cosmetic attention. It's mostly surface rust and the odd litle ding that needs leveling out. Me and my wife are going to convert her into a steel tent as we both love to camp. I'll get some more picks up later :D Laters...Pat http://i1115.photobucket.com/albums/...79/9693555.jpg http://i1115.photobucket.com/albums/...79/1076244.jpg http://i1115.photobucket.com/albums/...79/6552892.jpg |
Cool van!
You could try the Rustoleum paint job. I did it and my friends can't believe I rolled it. Just wet sand it between coats and then buff it. Looks like you had it done at a shop! |

Looks like you had it done at a shop! ...We live in a strata run appartment building and have one allocated parking space. The gated entrance says 'Maximun 8 FEET'...which is all well and good. But the waste and sprinkler pipes run through our parking bay...dropping the height by about 14 inches! The van doens't fit! So we are just waiting to hear if we can swap to another bay that's free from pipes and a little more room either side. **Checked Rustoleum out on the web and came accross these cool little sites** http://www.rickwrench.com/index79mas...llarpaint.html http://www.instructables.com/id/Pain...leum/?ALLSTEPS |
There are lots of threads on Rustoleum paint jobs. Google for "paint car with rustoleum" and you'll find them. I think there's one on this site titled "painted my van with a roller". People will think you're nuts but, hey, the results speak for themselves. My friends laughed until they saw it. I've heard it will fade faster than a shop job but rustoleum is cheap and you can wet sand it, mask it and roll another coat for 20 bucks on a Saturday afternoon!
You can also do the spray can "camo" job!:-jammin Its a little redneck I supose but I dig it. Have fun with it! If you have any rust spots make sure you sand them totally off until its shiny steel again. Otherwise they will pop up right through the new paint. |
**Little Update**
Finally set to work on the roof. Managed to get all the surface rust and loose paint rubbed down (by hand) to shinny and a coat of primer on. Used the Rustoleum Tremclad Automotive Rust Primer. It's looking much better than before! Some pics of the horrid inside..soon to be transformed! http://i1115.photobucket.com/albums/...9/SANY3199.jpg http://i1115.photobucket.com/albums/...9/SANY3200.jpg The new primer on the roof: http://i1115.photobucket.com/albums/...9/SANY3203.jpg ...and one of the front. Need a new grille. Just got a quote for a custom one of $1200!!! Guess I'll be making that myself. http://i1115.photobucket.com/albums/...9/SANY3206.jpg P.S. Rolling on Moppa Rims lol ;) http://i1115.photobucket.com/albums/...9/SANY3201.jpg |
I love that blue interior as is!
Needs a good cleaning/detailing though, and another original style knob radio :D |
I rolled my roof with mobile home roof coating. Great for a "steel tent" because it really cuts down on the heat. It looks a little different but my van sits up pretty high and no one has ever noticed it.

I really don't like blue in a car, van or whatever. The dash is in good condition with just one small split in it; not bad concidering she was built in 83/83. Yes sir, she's gonna be beautiful!!!! Vanaroo. I still have at least another coat of primer, then however many coats of 'something' to go ontop. It's gonna be black whatever it is. The rest of the van will be painted in a Metalic/ Gunmetal or as close as I can get to it:-jammin |
I like blue in any car/truck, but I love my brown :D

Hahaha! I'm loving the look!!!! Is it noisey with that cover off???
|
Very noisy....
But luckily, it's an awesome sound :D |
What are you running in that? I have a 351 V8 in ma bus which my dad rebuilt. He's a H/D mechanic...teaches US soldiers to fix these lol:
