Thanks John. I don't know what its like in Canada but down here in the South its hard to find an oldie that isn't rusted out. I got lucky. Out West (where I'm from originally) there's a bunch of vintage tin in really good shape. I hope you find one someday! But get a 300:)

There is one not to far from me, been sitting in a driveway for 6 years, it's a pull panel van, with sliding door, no idea on year or engine, but it's what i'm looking for, i'm gonna stop by when I have time and talk with the owner, see if hes interested in getting rid of it :D

If its more than 15 years old its got rust down here. If they're expecting a measley 1/2" of snow they dump salt everywhere. Plus, I think the high humidity has a lot to do with it. I was surprised coming from California where a 30 year old auto has very little rust. In 1975 I had a '35 Ford coupe in CA with almost no rust. Down here the bottoms of doors and any other body cavity almost always have holes. I drove a cherry '71 F100 out here in '97, from CA and by 2000 it was rusting all over.

Hey guys. Meet my van:-jammin

It was a gift from my dad who's worked on it since his uncle Glen purchased in in around 1990. She was originaly owned by Boeing, Seatle.

Mechanicaly it's fine: New brakes f&R, new suspendtion f&R and my dad rebuilt the engine in the early 2000's. She just need's some cosmetic attention. It's mostly surface rust and the odd litle ding that needs leveling out.

Me and my wife are going to convert her into a steel tent as we both love to camp.

You could try the Rustoleum paint job. I did it and my friends can't believe I rolled it. Just wet sand it between coats and then buff it. Looks like you had it done at a shop!

Rustoleum?? Guess I better check it out. Is that what you painted yours with? How much did you need to cover? I Should be starting bodywork this week. Just have little issue with the parking....

...We live in a strata run appartment building and have one allocated parking space. The gated entrance says 'Maximun 8 FEET'...which is all well and good. But the waste and sprinkler pipes run through our parking bay...dropping the height by about 14 inches! The van doens't fit! So we are just waiting to hear if we can swap to another bay that's free from pipes and a little more room either side.

There are lots of threads on Rustoleum paint jobs. Google for "paint car with rustoleum" and you'll find them. I think there's one on this site titled "painted my van with a roller". People will think you're nuts but, hey, the results speak for themselves. My friends laughed until they saw it. I've heard it will fade faster than a shop job but rustoleum is cheap and you can wet sand it, mask it and roll another coat for 20 bucks on a Saturday afternoon!

You can also do the spray can "camo" job!:-jammin Its a little redneck I supose but I dig it. Have fun with it!

If you have any rust spots make sure you sand them totally off until its shiny steel again. Otherwise they will pop up right through the new paint.

**Little Update**

Finally set to work on the roof. Managed to get all the surface rust and loose paint rubbed down (by hand) to shinny and a coat of primer on. Used the Rustoleum Tremclad Automotive Rust Primer. It's looking much better than before!

I rolled my roof with mobile home roof coating. Great for a "steel tent" because it really cuts down on the heat. It looks a little different but my van sits up pretty high and no one has ever noticed it.

Haha! Thanks John. The van was originaly owned by Boeing in Seattle. I really don't like blue in a car, van or whatever. The dash is in good condition with just one small split in it; not bad concidering she was built in 83/83.

Vanaroo. I still have at least another coat of primer, then however many coats of 'something' to go ontop. It's gonna be black whatever it is. The rest of the van will be painted in a Metalic/ Gunmetal or as close as I can get to it:-jammin

I like blue in any car/truck, but I love my brown :D

What are you running in that? I have a 351 V8 in ma bus which my dad rebuilt. He's a H/D mechanic...teaches US soldiers to fix these lol:
