Rear view mirror lighting

I have the rear view mirror in my truck that automatically darkens when headlights hit it at night. It has been working great (no tint during the day and tinted at night when lights hit it) but the other day when I went on a trip I noticed when we left the hotel the mirror was pretty tinted when I was driving in the day. Usually it was clear as if no tint but it now looked like i was almost driving in the dark when i looked in the mirror. The longer i drove the more it started to bug me. I then used my fingers to cover the sensors and see what happened. it lit up as if it were day time with no darkening. It is tinting in the exact opposite of what it is suppose to be. I let it go for a few days and found a button thing on the back of the mirror but it doesn't seem to move (or operator error). After I tried to move it I did notice the mirror wasn't as dark but still darker than it use to be. The next day it seem back to normal and I thought great! Then, yesterday as I was driving around mid day the mirror once again was darkened. I cannot figure out why its doing this. We had hung a park pass on the mirror and I though maybe there was a button we hit when hanging the pass but once I messed with what i thought to be the answer it still isn't working normal. Does anybody have any ideas? is that button on the back a button for anything? its just too weird to me! Thanks in advance!!
