how to test for bad injectors?

hi all,
how can I test to see if my fuel injectors are bad or stuck open/closed?
can a novice remove and replace FI on a 2004 F250?

Thanks,

Need more info, but I'm assuming you're talking about a 6.0 diesel...

Must like the 7.3, it can be done in the safety and comfort of your own driveway, but in order to test you'll need one of these: Riffraff Diesel: AutoEnginuity Total Ford Enhanced Bundle

It will allow you to perform the same diagnostics a Ford dealer tool can.

Where you located? Someone may have one nearby and be able to help...

There is no easy way to fully test bad cylinders, but good indication can be temperature measurements. I've been using infra-red thermometer and right now you can buy one for $9, while $25 buys one with laser pointer. When you spot cylinder more than 40F colder than the rest, you have a mis performing one. Usually I measure temperatures of exhaust manifold, since on newer engines the top of cylinder is not accessible.

have you checked your FICM voltage

I think that you can run a cylinder balance test with AE like OP mentioned

have you scaned for codes

If you had one thats stuck open it would be pouring smoke out the tailpipe nonstop and could burn a hole thru the top of the piston not good

and there not to bad to change out if you have a little wrenching exp...

I'm in Ft. Smith, just down the road and I have AE on my laptop. I also do some repair work.
