sliding rear window-'05 superduty.

dad just bougt a reg cab '05 superduty. has the solid back glass and im considering putting in a slider for him. first online price i found was $300. is this about the norm? i was thinking they were around 50-75. is it a hard to do yourself project? am i better off having it installed? ive heard the rear window is easy to deal with n a gen 1 ranger, but obviously this is a different beast. thanks for any insight. Dave.

That's not a bad price for a slider. I remember jobber being around $275-325 depending on tint and tri-glass or dual slider.
I've never installed on, but I've talked to some installers. There are only a few ways windows are installed and the moldingless style used by Dodge and chevy suck. You pretty much have to bust the glass out to hold the screws or drill the rivots. With the molding it's supposedly much easier, I don't know if you pull it out and unbolt the glass or pull the trim inside and unbolt it. However the attachments should be accessible. Then don't skimp on the adhesive, use a butyl, I like 3m's strip caulk, but they do have tube caulk too. Good butyl doesn't dry out so it will hold out water longer.
