1960 f100 Radiator Question
Running a Ford crate motor, 351w, rated at 385 hp mounted to a c4 tranny. I'm also running air conditioning. Will the stock radiator be able to handle this set up or should I be looking at buying a different radiator. If you think I should upgrade any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have the same dilemma going on minus the air conditioning, I have the same model year and same motor trans combo going in. What I have ordered is a separate trans cooler with an electric fan that I will be mounting to the rear of the trans via the frame, alot of guys out here in Las Vegas that I have talked too that wheel on the weekends tell me they have had no problems doing it this way after having problems trying to run a higher HP motor off of the factory radiator. I decided not to take the risk so this is the route I'm taking, as for personal experience I have none so take it with a grain of salt.

i would be looking at running a different rad for sure with that combo. you probably have a bit of money into the engine, so why cook it by using the stock rad. lots of aftermarket rads out there that will custom make a rad to fit for you. Griffen is one that comes to mind and in the long run they are not that expensive considering the cost to rebuild or replace a overheated motor.
definately go for an aftermarket alum rad with that combo. i wouldn't trust the factory rad as they were designed for a lot smaller engine with a lot less hp then what you have currently. rgds Mike |
