Rootbeer paint?
Hey all. I am the owner of a 1965 Ford F 100 from AZ. She is a beauty with a 352/4 spd 8' box and a/c. I bought the truck thinking it was a stock color but its supposed to be tan according to the tag. My little brother used to have a 1966 camper special which I thought this truck was of the same color. Anybody ever seen this color before?

Beautiful truck. You should have taken pictures with the truck in the sun, from a couple of different angles. I like "Rootbeer" for a color. Just need to see it all in the sun.

The pump you bought was introduced in 1978 and so...has a plastic reservoir. This pump is smaller in diameter than the 1965/77 pumps which have a steel reservoir.
This means that no FE mounting bracket from a car/truck will bolt to this pump, as the last year for FE's in cars was 1971, 1976 for trucks, and... The P/S hoses used with this pump are also different than the types used 1965/77. I agree with what FTE member jowilker sez, buy a 1973/76 F100 FE, 1975/76 F150 FE donor and take all the parts from it, including the disc brakes. btw: There is no such color as "Royal Maroon" used on any year FoMoCo vehicle. Early Mustang reds were Poppy, Torch and Candy Apple. Candy Apple is a slightly lighter shade than the paint on your truck. I looked at my 'official' FoMoCo paint chip charts (used at the parts counter), couldn't find anything from the 1960's that matched. Only Rangoon Red (1961/66) and Poppy Red (1965/66) were available for these trucks. Rangoon Red doesn't match your truck's color. |
There was a Maroon metalic code X cataloged for Ford cars under the name Vintage Burgundy for 1965 and I have seen this color on 65-66 ford trucks too over the years. So maybe a special order? And it's listed as Royal Maroon for 65 Lincoln.:)

1968 mustang color chart list's Royal Maroon as a ford color, and it does not look the same as Vintage Burgundy.
Paint Colours |
Ford paint chip chart sez: AE60-3059-A ~ Maroon = 1968/69 Passenger Cars, 1970 Bronco.
Doesn't refer to it as 'Royal' Maroon. |

Note the part number (AE60-1632-A) and note it's the same as Vintage Burgundy.
Now compare part numbers. AE60-3059-A = 1968/69 Maroon is not the same. Actual FoMoCo parts counter paint chip charts (not a page from parts catalog) refers to AE60-1632-A as (depending on the vehicle): Vintage Burgundy, Maroon & Maroon Metallic. There's no mention of Royal Maroon or Burgundy in these charts or in my 1965/72 Passenger Car Parts Catalog. |
