Went looking at a truck today, got suprised a little
I was on my way home from work, I see that there is a Ford superduty for sale. It looks a little beat up (paint wise). I go and take a look, I see a 1991 F-250 IDI. It is priced at 1500 OBO, I decided to give him a call. Once I got a hold of him I asked him about the truck, he tells me it has a rebuilt engine and has been through 3 transmissions. He then went on to tell me that the truck had over 500,000 miles on it!
|
If the doors are unlocked, start the engine up and check for blow by. If it was re-sleeved and re-ringed, it could be a good engine for a few hundred K more.
|
she's halfway broken in nicely.:D
she made someone some $.id keep looking personally. |
For $1k (it is listed as obo), I'd take a chance on it if the test drive goes well.
|
He said it has a rebuilt engine, and that it is on it's third transmission. I guess he used to tow his 5th wheel around the country
|
3 transmission in only 500k? Bet'cha it's an automatic E4OD that was lacking maintenance, right XLT? :D
.....or a badly abused ZF5, or a really bad operator :-X04 For 1k, I'd go for it, I would defenently be very carefull to check every single little thing carefully, but even with that mileage it *could* turn out to be a great truck! Ask him what kind of history it's had? Like 5'er hauler, highway queen, dirty work pig, company truck etc.q |
I guess he used it to tow his 5th wheel around the country
|
Hell for 1K what can you lose? It's worth almost that in scrap metal! If you got it and it had problems and you didn't feel like fixing up, you could always part out the good stuff and be money ahead!
|
yeah but the thing is,you need to be careful, cus if it wasn't well maintained you could be in another couple grand in parts pretty quick fixing up these old trucks.then you realize, your stuck continuing on,or bail out and take the loss before it gets worse.
sometimes it's easier to go a little newer,or something with a lot less miles and end up $ ahead,if you can just save up a bit more.it can get tricky.:D |
If it was in Ky instead of Ca, I'd buy it! But that's just cause I'm addicted to IDI'S! LOL. I know where there is an 88 f350 xcab dually right now and I have to force myself to stay away from it!
|
Theres one not too far from me, a 1986 Crew cab 6.9 auto. Add says it's got 600,000km (390k miles) and the truck looks great, even matches the 5th wheel it use to pull!
All the add says is it's in great shape. I won't bother posting the add here cause it's in french so no one will be able to read it. lol Hes asking 800$ for a great looking crew cab! Only if I had room......:-X15 |
Who says I can't read French John?? LOL

Le'show le'us le'add, we like le'pics anyway.

Wow this sucks, I just went back to get the link to the add and it's gone!
Sure didn't last long, I saw it when I got home around 5 and it had just been posted! Luckey I actually saved a pic of it cause it looked nice :D http://i607.photobucket.com/albums/t...Dieselside.jpg |
