Cheers guys. The Slide-on is an Offroada 9 based on the 850SC. They are sold by Freedom Offroad in Penrith NSW (probably some other places too?).

It's a good unit that is bigger than it looks. I'm pretty happy with it so far, but the pending trip around Australia will be its true test.

BALL DOWNLOAD

[quote=BigF350;13324948]Reg, does that 4.6t include tongue weight?

G'day Adrian,

No that Loaded Truck weight does not include the Ball Download (Tongue Weight). However the GCM will be the same.

The designers of the Aussiewide vans design them to have 7% of the vans total weight as the final Ball download.
The rule of thumb has always been between 10% & 12% as Ball Download.
That has as stated, just been a rule of thumb safe measure and is conservative to the high side.

So with the van at 3.4t the added Ball Weight to the trucks loaded free standing GVM would be an extra 240/250Kg.

Cheers,
Reg :-drink

NO wonder I could not win the last race in Brisbane the old nag in the horse float}>

SSSimon 02-16-2014 06:24 AM

The thoroughbred in the float has a 100% racing record - 1 start, no finishes. So him being in Brisbane wouldn't have helped your cause!

Nice rig Baker. My great ambition is to become a grey nomad. I have the truck, but not the trailer ATM. A few more years of wage-slave to go...

Also welcome to FTW Aussie Chapter!

Great vans, best thing on the market, built by a
business that has pride in their product and built
up to a standard not down to a price.:)

I know they are expensive but as I've always
said, you gets what you pays for.

We are planning on selling the house and buying
one of these in the not to distant future.
Spending the remaining years on the road, exploring
the huge amount of our great country that we have
never seen.:-jammin:-jammin:-jammin

Yes Brian B, we brought that to tour the outback when we sell our business, hopefully we're not to old when it happens.

The cabinetry is made of solid Tassie Oak , this is one reason the Bustrackers are a tad heavy.

Blue,
Yeah, I know they are a weighty beast but that's the price
you pay for the strength and quality.
Last time we looked into them they had just built a 16' unit
with an aluminium chassis as as an experiment.
I should check back and see if they have anything to report
on it.
The aluminium chassis would help to lower the weight a bit,
provided strength is not sacrificed.

Don't leave retirement to long, time speeds up as you get older.}>

Brian B , they made some 18'ers with alley chassis , and a 14'er single van now as well.
Now many years ago they made quite a few 16'ers some had dual axke and some had single axles that was the owners choice.
Have a look at the B/T site .

Blue,
I will go have a look, been a couple of years since I had a look at the BT site.

SSSimon 11-27-2014 04:49 AM

Great pics and stories F'nuts! Keep 'em coming.

Love the BT vans, more expensive than the truck itself!
