How many scrapyards have closed their doors, or salvage lots dried up??

If you can think back to how much old iron was around you ten years ago, and compare it with today -

How many fewer scrap yards can you get parts at today, and how "SKINNY" has everything already been stripped?

How bad has "SCRAPPAGE" done you locally? :(

Maybe I'm lucky... I live three blocks from one pick and pull, 5 blocks from a JY that'll let you pick your own parts if you're nice, and 4-5 other JY (they pull) around town. After that I know of 5-7 other JY's within a 100 mile radius that I can nab parts at. They always seem to have between 2-3 bullies (80-86) and for some reason a massive amount of dentsides (73-79).

Lots are gone since the property value went up.

My Biggest problem is many yards now post their stuff on eBay so the price is HIGH and usually they don't have the part by the time you look. Like a sun visor for a 94 Mercury Villager. Yeow, pricy and hard to find. Been looking off and on for a couple years now. Dealer wants $400+, for a Sun VISOR for petes sake.

Also, seems like many yards no longer know what they have and can't tell you on the phone. I don't usually have time just to "Come on down and take a look" like some of them say. Though I do love a good junk yard...

Still there are some yards around where you can go on a treasure hunt, but they are becoming rarer.

I have about the same yards here I had 20 years ago. Only one of my old ones is gone but the owner passed away.

Howard! Good to hear from you, bud...

Right around here (north side of Memphis TN)
Out of five that were once closest, 2 are metal crushers only now (part of a national corporation that moved in to "Bail them out"), 2 are gone entirely, and the one left PRE-SALVAGES (seperates out the main parts - like whole front clips) and sells only for DEARLY high sums...
