Trans temp sender install on E4OD
 

Hi,

Just bought an Autometer Trans temp gauge. It came with the standard 1/8 NPT sender. I will install this sender in the service port on the drivers side of the trans.

The probe on the sender from Autometer is half an inch long measured from the tip of the probe to the threads. Does anyone know if this probe is ok for E4OD, or is it too long and will come in contact with trans internals?

Put the sender in the side test port and call it a day.

youll be fine our glowshift temp sender was that length and it went in great and doesnt come in contact with anything :-X22

Is the oil level below this port with engine off?

it will just dribble a few drops of trans fluid when you remove the plug.
hardly even need a rag for.

trans temps here should be 150 absolute bare minimum once up to temp.175 ideal trans temp.200 still safe,but the trans fluid would need to changed more often.installing an external trans cooler,and possibly playing with its mounting location can help you average the ideal 175 under normal operating conditions.

How is the temp probe sealed into the port? Teflon tape or is it compression. I need to know be cause a trans temp gauge is on my list of things to do. Is there anyone with a picture of the port?

Its pipe thread put some tape on it but don't go overboard.

I just tightened mine up pretty good and it never leaked.

Just completes the install. But the sender seems to be too long. It will not enter completely into the port. I can feel resistance when trying to thighten the sender, so I have only thightened it very careful so far because I am afraid I might destroy something. And I have not started the engine after the install so far.

The bolt that I removed from the trans test port is appr a quarter of an inch (appr 7mm) long measured from the tip to the beginning of the threads. The sender is half an inch (appr 13mm) measured from the tip to the beginning of the threads.

Any who knows if it is ok to use this sender the way it is installed now, or should I get a shorter one?

If I should use a shorter sender, does anyone know where I can buy one online?

It sounds like no one on those other threads can make ups his or her mind about where to install the sensor. It is easier for me to install it in the test port but it is also easier to install it the first time correctly than twice.

That sounds weird, mine was about that length and went in no problem.

Did you try a screwdriver or wire or anything to see if you feel anything?
