Power locks, no remote?

I am new to Ford trucks, recently bought a 2002 F250 XLT. It has the power door lock buttons but it did not come with any wireless remotes. Is that the way they come? If I want to get a keyless entry remote can I just buy a Ford remote and program it for the truck, are the electronics for the remote installed since the power locks are there? Or do I need to go with an aftermarket keyless entry system? Thanks,

As far as I know, it should have keyless entry. If you have the owner's manual it tells you how to program the remote fob. Not all Ford fobs will work, but most 3-button ones will. I only had one fob when I got my truck used. I found two more used ones and programmed them to work.

The XLT trim came with power locks/windows as standard, but the Remote Keyless Entry was an option. So it is very possible that you don't have it. A good clue is if you don't have the keyboard on the outside of the drivers door, you don't have keyless entry.

Also, you can check your owners manual for instructions on how to program extra key FOBS. Go through the procedure on your truck, and if it responds by clicking the locks, then it is communicating and that means you have the option. Just need to get some FOBS from Ebay. If it does not click the locks, then it is not listening and you don't have that option.

The OEM system is not easily added, so if you don't have it you should look at aftermarket systems, perhaps with alarm, remote start, etc.

My 04' XLT did not come with keyless entry, it was an option. KE was usually ordered on the trucks but that was up to the purchasing manager when they ordered the lot vehicles.

If you have the module for keyless entry you can buy the key fobs off ebay. One of the remotes crapped out on my dads 03' and I bought him 2 replacement remotes of ebay. One new one used around $24 shipped, they were OE ford. It would be nice if you had the build sheet or window sticker for your truck so you can see what options you have. You can look in your owners manual for the remote program procedure and see if it activates when you follow the steps.

If you do not have any hardware on your truck for KE your best bet (pricewise) is to buy an aftermarket system. I know you can get some less option systems from DEI (Viper, Python and etc) for around the $150 installed mark.

I was just searching around for this topic, and my friend has an 03 King Ranch and it has keyless entry with the Ford fobs but no outside keypad

I have an 03 xlt too with Esof, power seat, backup sensors and 6 disc cd player but I don't think I have keyless entry. I'll have to try that sometime
