93 ranger oil pressure fluxuation

Truck has 48,000 miles. When ever not running has been in garage.

Oil pressure gauge reads between the M and A in NORMAL on the gauge. When RPM drop down to about 1200 gauge flutters and falls down. When at a complete stop gauge drops outside of the low mark.

This does not happen all the time, just randomly. I replaced the sending unit. Same results. Engine never sounds like low oil pressure. Runs as good as a 3.0 can-----.

Is there a location other then the oil sending unit to tap in for a mechanical guage?

The brake and ABS light comes on randomly also. Maybe it has ghost!!!

Got the same problem sort of, after a long hwy drive and I come to a stop the gauge flutters, I guess this thing is no sender but just a switch and the guage is a fake lol. you might check around the oil filter, many times there is a plug there someplace.

Yup ford has wired our op gauge so that it's nothing more than a mechanical idiot light!!!!

When the op gauge reads low, does the op warning light turn on???

If you've replaced the op sender, then check it's electrical connector for loose fit, or corrosion & it's wiring for broken strands.

If thats ok, did you use PTFE ribbon dope on the threads for a sealant???? If so, it may not be making a good ground connection through the threads to the engine block. so maybe check it with an ohm meter, or connect a ground wire from the chassis to the sensors metal casing & see if it stops acting out.

Let us know what you find.

Thanks for the replies. On the 3.0 you have to be a long armed contortionist monkey to change the sending unit! I found the easiest method was to remove the pass. tire and reach up from there.

The op warning light does not come on.

The electrical connection was in interference fit, and quite clean. I don't think that is a problem.

So now you're suggesting I got to get back in there to make sure the ground it good? I wondered why that came without any sealant on the threads.

I did wrap some teflon tape on the threads.
