Can anyone identify this bumper?
When I got the truck guy told me it was an optionional in 51. Bumper was bolted to fender for added strength. Is this a bunch or Hooey?

Since rear bumpers were optional from the factory, there were many different bumpers available from aftermarket vendors back then. That is obviously one of them. But it is not a factory option, if that's what the claim was. Given the curved style, I think it would look more at home on a chevrolet.

I'm pretty sure that's a dealer option bumper...:)

Looks kind of light weight for towing anything too heavy and I'd agree that it wasn't factory. Your truck sure looks like it's in very good condition.

Here a shot of the tag on the drivers side. Looks like it says "Another Smash Hit product". The Perry Company Waco Texas Grill Guard.

I did some checking and it seems this was an after market part from The Perry Company. They made many things including bumpers for Ford and Chevy trucks starting in the 40s and 50s and still do. I guess it could have been "almost origional" to my truck.

I have the original/stock FORD 51/52 rear bumper in brand new chrome. The bumper was repaired and chromed, but the repair wasn't perfect. Major issue is in the larger yellow circle. Looking to sell it now. PM me if you're interested. Will probably put it on eBay soon.

fte bumper sticker will fix that. LOL LOL

Beautiful truck.
I would think that if you ever bumped anything with that bumper it would really tweak the fender. Personally I prefer the looks of the stock bumper over that one, but I would take that truck in a heartbeat, very nice. Although it is a good conversation piece and gives you a unique look.... |
I dont like the look of this bumper too much but I think I'll keep it knowing its probably the first and only one ever put on this truck.

I think the bumper on your truck gives it its own unique look and although my opinion doesn’t matter, I like it! Nice! Paul |
Hey, I just watched the last 15 minutes of "Trial of Old Drum". A guy walks out of a building and you can see the back end of a 54 and it had a very similar bumper.
My Mother-in-law said that the truck was in the movie a lot. The last 15 minutes were good, true story about a dog on trial for killing sheep. It's on Netflix, here is the bumper. A bit different but it is attached to the rear fender. http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/...g?t=1312601746 |
