What motors will replace a 170?

I have a 1964 Econoline truck. The oil pump some how vibrated loose and lost oil pressure. I think it threw a rod. Not sure of all damage yet Just a loud knock when you give some throttle. I was wondering will a 300 6 cylinder bolt up to my 3 speed manual transmission? would it fit my truck. I'm new to this owning a classic I assumed there would be break downs in the near future but I never guessed it would be this quick. I just got the truck in May. I'm going to change the bearings and oil pump. I am also going to check the piston walls for any scaring to see if it is more serious than I think. Please help if you can. Thanks

no, the 300 will not fit without a lot of work.
a 200 will bolt rite in, and a 250 will bolt in with minor modifications.
both the 200 and 250 will give you much better power and performance

A 300 would of fit a 65, not a 64. Not without changing the doghouse and putting the floor hump in back of engine compartment to fit the 300 or a 240.

200 is the best bet. I have a 250 and you have to change motor mounts and different bolt holes for the tranny.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to work on it today. I hope for now I can just get the 170 running right. I am going to look in to the 200 down the road. Are the 200s hard to find?

200: 1964/83 misc Passenger Cars, has 7 main bearings. 170 (and 144) only has 4.
