Is there a good one out there ?
 

The back up battery pack jump starters, is any one familiar with them. A worker was using one to start her honda civic every day for like a month, never paid attention to type ,quality and what not. I wanna get one for when I am in the middle of nowhere camping as a back up emergency thing.

I have not seen any particular brand that I could recommend over any other, but I will offer some thoughts.

The best answer is a second automotive battery and a dual-battery isolator.

If you want one of the portable jump start battery kits, get one without all the fancy gadgets (like an air compressor). You can get a good notion of the capacity simply from the weight. Take a good look at the cables and clamps provided. Make sure the cables are long enough that you can hook it up and set it somewhere safe while you start the truck, and of course, that the clamps are sturdy and well designed. Avoid plastic clamps because they tend to break at the pivot point, especially when cold.

Try to get one that has not been sitting around on the shelf for a long time.

Read and follow the directions for charging and maintaining the jump start battery.

Thanx for the reply, good call on the second battery. Seems like a bit of work but in the end prolly worth it. I did find a 20# at Napa. seems very nice and heavy duty 1500 amp, no gadgets except a place to plug in a cigarette style cord. I also need it to power a medical breathing device ( C-pap) so that was part of the need for portability. The dual battery thing was gonna require long cords and what not.

You may wish to have two then. One to power the C-pap and one for jump starting. Depending on the power requirements, you might find you can stuff a motorcycle battery in your kit and use it power the C-pap and recharge it when you get home. The Motorcycle battery will probably have a lot more reserve than the jump box as well so it could run your equipment for longer periods.
