New truck, antifreeze leak
2011 Super Duty, SB, 6.7, Lariat, SuperCab, FX4
Undercover hard bed cover, Ford bed mat, and mud flaps. www.undercovercoverinfo.com Traded a 2003 Expedition with 100k miles on it. It was time for a new tow vehicle, I tow a 30 foot travel trailer.(7000 to 8000lbs) The dealer offered me a deal at invoice plus all of Ford's incentives, so I couldn't refuse. I have about 1300 miles on it and it runs fine. I have been noticing a wet spot under the right front of the truck, checking today it looks like anti freeze leaking from above the air condition pump. It makes about a 3 inch diameter wet spot, the fluid recovery bottles are still at the correct cold coolant level. I couldn't get my hand in that space to find where it is leaking from. |
Are you sure it isn't just sweat dripping off your AC? Does it smell like antifreeze? There was another guy with the same problem on this forum. If you are unsure take it to Ford....
|
You have 2 coolant reservoirs. Keep a close eye on both but likely the one on the passenger side up front is the one to watch, it services the EGR cooler which is also on the passenger side of the engine.

I am planning a 1500 mile towing trip in a month, I will take to a Ford dealer to
have it checked. It is antifreeze, I can see were it is dripping on the AC pump, I don't think it's a serious leak. Hope it can be an easy fix. |
The antifreeze was coming from the overflow tube on the secondary recovery tank.
It must have been over filled? I guess the warmer weather must have caused more expansion of the fluid. The dripping is drying up and the leak is gone. |
Thanks for the update. I've been watching mine since your original posts and found no leaks or drips.
|
It wasn't the overflow after all.
The leak was so small it was hard to pinpoint. It leaked about a quart in 6000 miles. While I was changing the oil I noticed the back of the AC pump was damp. Had the system pressure checked and found the top hose was leaking on the secondary cooling system. The hose was replaced due to a damaged "O" ring. Glenn |
I'm glad they found your problem!
My truck is getting pressure tested as I type this message. I noticed a wet spot under my truck as well. I crawled under the truck and could easily see orange fluide dripping off the radiator on the driver side. I would post a picture of it but I have no idea how to do it on this forum. I'm interested to see what the outcome of my pressure test is! |

I took mine in for a radiator smell about 2 weeks ago. They fixed it...then 4 days later I had red fluid drops on my garage floor. Monday they just installed a new radiator. 36,000 miles here.

Well got off the phone with the Service Manager about an hour ago and they are ordering a new radiator for my truck. She has 31000 miles on it. I wasnt able to get into the details on where exactly the leak was and what possibly caused it (I was running into a meeting) but when I pick her up, either tomorrow evening or Saturday I'll get the details and post.
Epic, Thanks for the link! When I get home tonight I'll try to upload a picture. :-drink |
Just took my 2012 F250 6.7 in to the dealer, for a very small leak on the driver side, just below the radiator. 35,500 miles and they are replacing the 1100.00 radiator. They said its a fairly common issue, and the guy that gets over 36k miles with no ESP is going to get screwed.

Welcome aboard. :-wink
Glad you're getting taken care of. Hopefully the new radiator will outlast the old one. :-X15 |
